Double Sided Paper Card Design

This double sided paper card shows off both sides of the paper and makes for a quick and easy card!

This card layout is perfect with Stampin’ Up!’s two sided papers – this double sided paper card design is easy and impressive!

Most of Stampin’ Up!’s patterned papers are double sided – and this card design is perfect for them! I often have a hard time deciding which side of the paper to showcase, so this lets me feature both of them (OK one more so than the other, but at least I don’t have to bury one side totally). For this particular card, I used the Texture Chic Specialty Designer Series Paper and then added a small strip of the Distressed Gold Specialty Paper in behind to pull out the gold features in the paper and to make everything a little more special! I gave detailed instructions on this card design in a previous YamStamps Newsletter (subscribe so you don’t miss out on future tutorials), but the quick version – make a slit in your DSP and then fold back on a diagonal, and adhere the flaps in place.

For this double sided paper card design, I added the sentiment and dies from the Something Fancy Discounted Bundle (which includes the Something Fancy stamp set and coordinating Something Fancy dies). I like that the bundle is “gender neutral” which means I can get more bang for my crafting buck – it can be used for anyone on my card list, and there’s a number of different card-giving occasions covered, too!

If you purchase the Something Fancy Discounted Bundle by 28 February, you’ll also qualify to pick a free Sale-a-Bration item! That’s definitely a way to get more bang for your crafting buck! A reminder that Sale-a-Bration items are available until the end of the month OR until supply is exhausted. The Dainty Flowers Designer Series Paper was definitely the most popular pick amongst my customers, and obviously others liked it too, because it’s no longer available. So if there’s something remaining on your Sale-a-Bration wish list, you’ll want to grab it sooner rather than later! You can shop online 24/7 and have your item delivered directly to your (Canadian) door from the YamStamps Online Stampin’ Up! Canada storeshortcut is yamstamps.com/shop. Grab the supplies to make your own version of this double sided paper card design! If you need assistance placing your order, or would like to pay by etransfer, you can email me and I’m happy to help (though I may not be as 24/7 as the online store links LOL!!!).

Empty Nesting (again)

It’s that time of year when I see all the Facebook updates from my friends with kids of similar ages – we’re empty nesting (again)! Last minute shopping and prepping to send our offspring (back) to university has been happening this week. I laughed because last year I did so much research and preparing ahead of time for my son’s first year, and this year it was more like – oh my gosh, you’re leaving this weekend – maybe we should go grab stuff for your apartment….?!!

Anyway – here’s a wonderful sentiment for everyone heading off to school this week – or to new adventures. This is the Sunday Swap Share – created by Ellie Blake.

yamstamps swap share ellie blake

She’s featured the Sailing Home stamp set and the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper, along with the nautical looking Night of Navy/Sahara Sand Baker’s Twine. I love this fancy cut/fold card. Frugal Crafter Alert! I’m pretty sure that Ellie’s cardstock is 4.25″ x 11″ and then she’s cut a portion from half the card – which is then used as the background for her image on the the front panel!

I love this sentiment, and it’s so appropriate for this month. September is a great time to set new goals and directions! My personal goal is to up my water intake (well okay, it’s been a goal for a little while now – but I’m buckling down about it this month!!).

You’ll want to check back on the YamStamps blog and get on my mailing list to be sure that you get to hear about all the upcoming specials and events happening in the YamStamps / Stampin’ Up! world – there’s some starting in the next few days!

What to Make for Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day! Are you still wondering what to make for Father’s Day? May I suggest a handmade card?!

Happy Father's Day!

In honour of Father’s Day and Sunday Swap Share, I’m posting this card created by Paige Stirling Fox, using Stampin’ Up!’s A Good Man cling stamp set> I love all the little details and touches she added to this card! This is one of those stamp sets that you can use as an outline image only, or add colour with Stampin’ Blends or Aqua Painters and Watercolour Pencils (did you see that the Assortment 2 set (previously a limited time offering) is back for good in this year’s catalogue?).

If you aren’t searching for “What to Make for Father’s Day” because you’ve already got your gift (here’s hoping since Father’s Day is today…) – here’s a cute packaging idea featuring the Best Catch stamp set.

what to make for father's day

If the Dad in your life likes to fish, this is a great packaging idea to hold a bit of fishing gear or a gift card to an outdoor store?

Of course, another idea for “What to Make for Father’s Day” is food…. In our household growing up (and it seems in a lot of households?) the tradition is actually for dad to barbeque something for dinner! So maybe make some dessert to go with the bbq? Stampin’ Up!’s cellophane bags are food safe and ready to load with some baked goodies or your dad’s favourite candies.

Happy Father’s Day to all the father’s and mentoring men out there. Here in Burlington it also means the Sound of Music Festival – free concerts and yesterday’s parade are highlights! I’m hanging out with my favourite band as usual – the Burlington Teen Tour Band – and it’s also the reason it was a little on the quiet side in the YamStamps world – I’ll post more about that in the days to come now that I think I’m almost recovered from jetlag…. Kudos to the people that dealt with my occasional yawning during the Monthly Card Class last week, and apologies in advance to tomorrow’s Stamper’s Club people!! In any case, we’re back at it – hope to see you at an event soon – like the New Catalogue Open House & Retired Product Sale June 22?! Contact me for more details/directions and to reserve a copy of the catalogue!

Metallic Foil Birthday Card

This is a perfect card for a Manic Monday – easy but impressive (though that’s the goal for most of my crafting any day of the week….). This Metallic Foil Birthday Card features one of the Grapefruit Grove Foil Sheets which comes paired with Lovely Lipstick Foil Sheets as a Sale-a-Bration Level 1 package! You get four sheets of each, so eight sheets total for plenty of crafting opportunities!

Metallic Foil Birthday Card

For this Metallic Foil Birthday Card, I used the Grapefruit Grove Foil which has an iridescent sheen to it – so it’s good for a gender neutral kind of card! Here it’s embossed with the Scattered Sequins Dynamic Embossing Folder, and the sentiment is from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set. I usually like to use circles for sentiments or images if I can because they’re very forgiving – you don’t have to worry about whether the image is totally straight – and in this case, I wanted to mount the sentiment on an angle to make it a bit more interesting, so it’s easy to do if there aren’t any straight lines or corners I need to worry about! Just a few steps and this card is done. Of course, I used my thrifty trick of cutting the backing circle from the backing layer of cardstock for the foil sheet – since noone will see the hole there anyway!

Just a reminder that for each $60 CAD in product that you order, you earn a Level 1 Sale-a-Bration reward (like the foil sheet package used to make the Metallic Foil Birthday Card) – and $120 CAD product order means you can pick either a Level 2 reward or TWO Level 1 rewards! Coming on Friday, February 15 – more options! A new set of rewards to tempt you through to the end of Sale-a-Bration, March 31st. I’ll be sure to post a link to the catalogue here on the YamStamps site on Friday.

Of course, the Demonstrator Starter Kit special is still going strong – $225 worth of product of your choice for just $135 – or you could add in an exclusive Craft & Carry Tote Bag for a total kit price of $175. Provincial sales tax ONLY applies – so if you’re in a province with a blended tax, there is NO tax, and FREE shipping. Hey Valentine!

Hey Valentine! Here’s the Sunday Swap Share!

Hey Valentine!

Isn’t this fun? Created by Leena Girsa, it features a few love themed Stampin’ Up! products. The image is from the Occasions Catalogue Hey Love stamp set and is punched out with the Starburst Punch. The paper along the bottom of the card is from the All My Love Designer Series Paper package, and the die cut is from the Be Mine Stitched Framelits Dies. I love how you end up with the outline of the small hearts plus all the solid small hearts to use on projects! I also love how Leena inlaid the diecut by cutting the top edge of the Designer Series Paper as well. The sentiment strip is accented with a piece of the Black and Silver Striped Ribbon. I think this would be a great card for a young man. Hey Valentine! No frilly stuff here!

You still have a few days to make your own Valentine’s Day cards – Stampers Club members will actually have the opportunity to make one on Monday – just in time for February 14th. We welcome new members at any time! If you’re local to Burlington, Ontario, why not come and join us? Check out the YamStamps Events page for more information, or contact me! Stampers Club is a great way to meet some fellow crafters and get a monthly creative fix – plus once during your 6 month membership you’ll get FREE product! Afraid of commitment? Well then, the Monthly Card Class is for you – sign up for the dates that work for you! The First Wednesday of the Month is Card Class (usually….check the Events page just in case…) and the third Monday of the Month is Stampers Club (usually…depending on stat holidays). Due to the crazy weather we’re having in Southern Ontario, we had to cancel February’s Card Class – and I noticed when I was posting on the YamStamps Facebook Page, that LAST February’s Card Class was also affected by weather! Hmmmmm…..

Anyway – hope you can join us in person at some point – or if not, there’s always the Online Club option. Hey Valentine – there’s no excuse not to get some crafty “Me” time in! Happy creating.
