Giving Thanks

We are heading into a long weekend! Getting ready for Canadian Thanksgiving, and it’s one like none before, that’s for sure! I am giving thanks for the health of my family, even though we won’t be gathering together like normal. I am giving thanks for employment, and giving thanks for support of friends. I am always thankful for having a creative outlet – and the bonus that I am able to turn it into a business as well.

giving thanks

I made this card with the Banner Year stamp set. I love that this set has a variety of sentiments and images – it’s very multipurpose! I stamped the centre pumpkin first, then created the mask by stamping the pumpkin image over the sticky portion of a post-it note before cutting it out. I put the mask over the centre pumpkin before stamping the pumpkins on either side – to give the appearance that they are behind the middle pumpkin. If I remember, I keep the mask in the stamp set box so that I don’t have to re-do it each time. The pumpkin stalk & leaf are a separate stamp, and I used the brush ends of Stampin’ Write markers to ink the stamp before stamping in place. I used a piece of the In Good Style Designer Series Paper to add texture and interest easily. Bonus it’s one of the Designer Series Paper on sale this month!

I hope that you have a happy Thanksgiving! I’m looking forward to a long weekend, eating some good food and spending time with family – even though we will be face-timing with some, rather than having face to face time. I’m also giving thanks for you! Thank you for visiting the YamStamps blog and supporting my business.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends and family! Pumpkin pie is baked and I will be putting the turkey in the oven in the next while. I am so grateful to be able to get together with family and friends this weekend. Sunday’s Swap Share celebrates this fact!

Thanksgiving Card

This card was created by Selina Merali and features the Gather Together stamp set and Come to Gather Designer Series Paper. The pumpkin image is die cut with the Gathered Leaves Dies, which also comes with the Gather Together stamp set in a discounted bundle. You could get all these products plus the Come to Gather Ribbon Combo and Tags & Feathers Elements by grabbing the Come To Gather Suite Bundle – it’s like pressing the “Easy” button for these items! Selina’s done a beautiful job on this elegant card, don’t you think?

A tip if you are creating multiples of one design but want to use Designer Series Paper as part of the project – copy this card design – use smaller pieces as accents. You’ll be able to stretch your sheets a little further. For this demonstrator card swap, we had to make 21 cards. If you have a standard Designer Series Paper package, it will have two 12″ x 12″ sheets of each of the double sided designs. You could cut six 2″ strips and then cut them down further – if you make the pieces 2″ x 3″, you’ll get 24 pieces for example. If you’re trying to be super efficient and thrifty, I’d just recommend doing any number that divides into 12, if you’re trying not to tax your brain too much, I’d recommend doing whole numbers rather than fractions!

I’m looking forward to our family Thanksgiving dinner tonight, and will work it off by walking alongside the Burlington Teen Tour Band at the Kitchener Waterloo Oktoberfest Parade tomorrow! Happy Thanksgiving!

Autumn Leaves Card

This week’s Sunday Swap Share is from the Holiday Catalogue – but it’s not a Christmas Card! This Autumn Leaves Card was created by Christine Dionne and highlights some of the “other” holiday products in Stampin’ Up!’s Holiday Catalogue.

This card features the Gather Together Bundle, which includes the Gather Together photopolymer stamp set and coordinating Gathered Leaves Dies. In the background is the Woodland Embossing Folder and a strip of the Come To Gather Designer Series Paper. If you look, Christine’s used a trick that a lot of demonstrators use – you pick the colours for your card from the Designer Series Paper – and these colours are perfect for this Autumn Leaves card.

I’m just starting to go through the fantastic cards I received as part of this demonstrator card swap. This was another organized swap – focusing on Holiday Catalogue product, with some guidelines in terms of card construction. At Stampin’ Up! demonstrator gatherings, there’s usually a fair bit of swapping occuring! Demonstrators will create multiples of a cardfront, or full card, and then trade them with other demonstrators. It’s a great way to get ideas and inspiration. I’m looking forward to On Stage in November – it’s the Stampin’ Up! organized event for demonstrators. The main event moves from location to location, since Stampin’ Up! is a global company, but there are smaller, pretty much identical events that happen on the other continents. This fall there’s a local event in Toronto! I love that it’s just down the road from my home. If you’re interested in joining me at that event, check out my FAQ page about becoming a demonstrator with my team. You’ll be able to purchase a starter kit and once you’ve got your demonstrator number, you can buy your ticket to On Stage! I’ve also got an Information Evening scheduled for Thursday, so you could RSVP for that and join me to find out more and ask any questions. I’d love to have you as part of my group of demonstrators – known as the “Eh” Team!

September Happenings and the latest “Best of” set!

Stampin’ Up!’s latest “best of” set is Best of Autumnbest-of-autumn – featuring some seasonal images (and one saying) that will evoke that fall feeling….like the back to school rush isn’t enough to do that?! Anyway – a variety of styles is sure to suit your autumnal crafting needs! See the flyer here.   Remember that each “Best of” set comes with a sticker, and once you’ve got six of them, you get to pick a free stamp set worth up to $17.95!

I personally always loved back to school time. I always loved (still do) shopping for back to school supplies! I think that’s part of my fascination with crafting – all those blank pieces of paper and tools waiting to be used….*sigh* If you’re also ready to get back to classes, come to one of my upcoming card making classes! This Wednesday is the monthly card class featuring 4 designs, and this Friday is the first of my Christmas Card Classes – featuring four different holiday cards each time. This way, you’ll have a number of unique cards to give to those special people, or discover a design that you like and get supplies to create a number of them, for your bulk card needs! Please contact me to register or use the paypal links on the events page for ease. Don’t forget if you register and pay for your Christmas classes before the first class, you’ll be able to make an extra card at each of the upcoming monthly classes!!

Also – I’m adding a few different classes to my slate of offerings – Wednesday, October 2nd I’m offering a Thankful mini-scrapbook using the Thankful Tablescape Simply Created Kit. Class fee will be $35 and you MUST register and pay by September 16th as I need to pre-order all the supplies. This class runs the same time as the monthly card class, and you CAN register for both classes (and you WILL NOT be here all evening! LOL)  Friday, October 4th, I’m offering a Hallowe’en banner class. We’ll create a fun banner to decorate your door or mantel for Hallowe’en. Cost for the banner class will be $40, again, registration and payment required by September 16th. So – LOTS of different opportunities for you to get crafty in the upcoming while! As always – if you aren’t able to make it on the class date, get a group of friends together and I can bring the class to you!  Visit the events page or contact me if you have questions or prefer to register via email!
