Celebrate Rock & Roll!

Celebraterockroll Celebrateinside

This card design is based again on one we did at the Stampin’ Up! regional seminar in Hamilton quite a while ago.  It’s fun to have a standard sized card that isn’t quite so standard…  The large flower from the Ginormous Flowers set is inked first in regal rose ink, the the stamp is rolled onto a rose red ink pad so that the edges of the stamp pick up the darker shade of ink.  A little fine cosmo glitter in blue gives the card a little more bling factor.  And hey, glitter always makes a card more "wow".  Colours of the card are sage shadow with so saffron; a bashful blue layer under the image.  The other stamp set I used was Celebrate Everything… this stamp set of phrases covers a whole range of occasions, which makes it a perfect set to use while when you’re making a whack of cards to have handy!

I’m going to be trying to do a few video tutorials in the near future, so if there’s anything that you’re curious about (technique, card, etc) – or if you’ve been in one of my classes and need to see something again, let me know & it may be the subject of a future video tutorial here!!

Defining Alphabet sample

DefiningcardThis is one of those stamp sets in the Stampin’ Up! catalogue that I saw and _loved_ right away.  Of course, I needed to have both the sets – one set is the alphabet, the other is definitions.  They can stand alone, but I think they’re fabulous paired together!

This is a smaller, square-ish card that uses a couple of my "fall back" colours.  I will often turn to the pale plum / perfect plum because I think they look great together…  The Stampin’ Up! Colour Coach (colour wheel) shows that they’re versions of the same colour so good for a monochromatic scheme.

Anyhoooo…  I stamped 2 of the flowers from Polka Dots & Petals (a "go to" set for me) randomly on the pale plum card, stamping the outline flower using craft ink, which I then embossed with iridescent ice.  On the main image, I stamped the letters in pale plum classic ink, and stamped the definition in perfect plum craft ink, which was also embossed with iridescent ice.  Mounted this onto some perfect plum, but needed something "extra", so I dyed my small pretties flower using an aqua painter & pale plum classic refill ink.  Added the clear rhinestone brad from the pretties kit and I was done!

Happy Thanksgiving!  (or, Happy Columbus Day if you’re in the states reading this!!).  Don’t forget that _today_ is actually the final day for the Simply Sent 20% off sale….I had a big brain fart (or, if I use my "mom" voice/language, a big brain "toot") earlier when I posted the final date for this sale (incorrectly) – I’ve since corrected it.

Thanks…and a recipe

Thank you to all who were able to make it to the new catalogue open house & rubber garage sale.  I imagine you’ll all be busy over the next few days poring over the fall-winter collection & creating your wish lists (and don’t forget I’ll be checking up on you to see how they’re coming along!)

As promised, I’m posting the recipe for the cherry loaf pound cake.  This recipe came to us via a friend of my mother’s, Fran, and has become a favourite.  I am the proud owner of a kitchen aid stand mixer (LOVE IT) so find this (and many other recipes) is a cinch to whip up.  The longest thing is the baking!

CHERRY LOAF POUND CAKE

2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup candied cherries, halved
1 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp almond extract.  I usually use vanilla extract instead as we have nut allergies in the house.

Combine flour & salt, stir well to blend.  Mix 1/2 cup flour mixture with cherries & set aside.  Cream butter & sugar together until light and fluffy.  Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Add extract.  Add remaining 1-1/2 cups flour gradually.  Stir in floured cherries, mixing until well blended.  Spread mixture in a greased loaf pan.  Bake at 300F for 90-100 minutes or until toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean.  Cake will crack on top.

A REMINDER that the stampers club will be starting soon. ONLY TWO SPOTS LEFT.  Don’t miss out!  RSVP ASAP.  This club will be meeting in Burlington.

Now that the madness of the rubber garage sale is over…I’m hoping to get some card samples posted in the near future!!
