Another swap card

Swapcard1Here’s another swap card that I did for our demo only swap.  I’m taking this one with me for convention in a couple of weeks, as I’m in 3 different organized swaps while there!  I may "tweak" it further to meet the requirements for the swap (i.e. more "stuff" on it).  (so if you’re a demo going to second session, involved in a shoe box or wow swap, don’t "CASE" this one!! LOL).

This card uses Year After Year again.  It also uses the wonderful words set, and In My Thoughts   set.  I used the aquapainter with rose red reinker to colour the image and put a wash of colour over the word "love"
Swapcard2 I stamped the heart that’s on the fold first, then masked it and restamped the heart so it appeared behind the first one.  Using my hobby blade (and those who have been in classes with me know how much I like to use that blade NOT) I cut the edge of the first heart so the card folded flat.  I used confetti cardstock which tends to handle the wetness of the aquapainter fairly well, not too much warping.  (of course, after they dried, I did set them under a book for a while to ensure that!! LOL).

new stamp set sample :)

Swap3cardThis is one of the cards I did for a recent demonstrator swap.  We each make numerous copies of the same card & send them to the swap host (in this case, my friend Sue), she "swaps them out" & mails a set of each swap card back to us.  Well, at least that’s how it’s supposed to happen… I was a little late 🙁 so mailed each person their cards individually.  Anyway.  This card uses the Year after Year stamp set.  I stamped the elephant pull toy onto glossy white cardstock, coloured around the lines with my bordering blue stampin’ write marker, then used my blender pen to pull the colour around the image.  I used silver brads on the wheels, and then attached black hemp with my crystal effects (dimensional glaze / super glue!).  The background is stamped with the word "baby" from Everyday Flexible Phrases, plus one of the stamps from Background Basics.  I used (I think!) bashful blue cardstock, brocade blue cardstock, and one of the certainly celery designer papers from my palette o’prints.  This is a slider card, so the elephant pull toy can be (um) pulled across the card.  I used the ticket corner punch on the corners of the layers to make it a bit more interesting.  If I did this swap card again, I might do something different with the dimensions, or perhaps add a larger greeting or sentiment on the front of the card, because as I look at it, it looks kind of bare.  Ah well.  It’s a sample for ideas, right?  LOL.

Until later….

thank you card for crossing guard

CrossingguardcardNeeded some thank you cards & pulled this one out of my stash…I have a vague recollection that perhaps we did this at a class at some point….but who knows.  When I grabbed it, I noticed that the bug holding the leaf is in the same posture that the crossing guard has when she is at the cross walk holding up her stop sign!!  So this went to our crossing guard, Genevieve, who calls each child by name as they walk her cross walk.  I kid you not.

Anyway, it uses the stamp set Cute as a Bug, which retires in a few days.  Print pattern is the background stamp; cardstock is green galore, gable green (the lighter green), pixie pink (aka Dora the Explorer pink) and whisper white cardstock.  Green brad anchors the word window punch "tag".  Image is coloured with stampin’ write markers.

You still have 2 days to order retiring merchandise (while in stock) so contact me if there’s anything you "need"!  Please also check my calendar of events…I am starting a stampers group soon – call me for details/to register – space is limited.

a very quick card…

Quickcard_2
I needed a quick birthday card!  This uses the birthday wheel from one of the new hostess sets – All About Occasions bundle, which includes a 4 piece stamp set (great for tags & small cards), a birthday jumbo wheel & a thank you jumbo wheel.  Demonstrators were allowed to preorder certain hostess sets that will be featured in the new fall/winter collections catalogue.  These will be available for hostesses to earn starting July 1st.  The jumbo birthday wheel is in pretty in pink ink and mounted onto cool caribbean cardstock (disappearing at the end of the month).  Wrapped some pink grosgrain (it’s for a girl, can you tell?!)around the image & mounted with stampin’ dimensionals onto my card base.  I added the butterfly from A Greeting for All Reasons (retiring at the end of June) and added dazzling diamonds glitter with my 2 way glue pen.  Unfortunately I had a bit of a gluing mishap, thus the "splats" of glitter….but I think it still works….
I’m marching with the Burlington Teen Tour Band alumni in the Sound of Music parade this morning.  WIsh me luck – it’s been quite a while since we were teens & marched parade routes on a regular basis!!

diorama card

We did a diorama card at the punch class (Punch your art out!) and I had promised to post the instructions for the attendees so they could remember everything!!

This was taught to me by my friend & fellow SU demonstrator, Karen Motz, at another demo’s (Mo Dickie) demo meeting.

I used the In Full Bloom simply scrappin’ kit (as did Karen) because it makes life a little easier (and who couldn’t use that?!).  I have a sneaking suspicion that we may lose this simply scrappin’ kit because the coordinating stamp set In Full Bloom is retiring at the end of June (*sob*).  (No insider information here, but just hazarding a guess…..really).

Anyway…..

Diorama1
2 pieces of coordinating solid cardstock, 3" x 8.5"
1 piece coordinating patterned cardstock 3" x 6.5"
    (or randomly stamped cardstock).
1-3/8" circle punch  (for the holes on the front of the card)
1-1/4" circle punch (for the holes on the middle section of the card)
paper trimmer with scoring blade
adhesive

Diorama2
Score both solid cardstocks widthwise 2" from both ends.

Diorama3

Score patterned cardstock widthwise 1" from both ends.

Diorama10_2

Choose cardstock to be the back of the card.
Stamp sentiment of choice on centre of this cardstock & set aside.

Diorama4 The front of the card
You may wish to stamp on the cardstock to decorate – you can do this either before or after punching holes.
Punch first hole:
Line up the right edge of the 1-3/8" circle punch with the right score line, and insert the cardstock all the way into the punch.

(the physical edge of the punch lines up with the score line, not the shape to be punched

Diorama5
Punch 2nd hole lining up left edge of punch with left score line, again, inserting cardstock all the way into punch.

Diorama6

This is what you have so far.  Use as a mask for Hallowe’en….or continue on to make the diorama card.

Diorama7

Using the punch upside down so you can see what you’re doing, punch a third circle in the middle of the two circles already punched out.

(truth be told, I usually punch upside down, perhaps I spent too much time "down under" in the South Pacific on my travels).

Diorama8
The end result

Diorama9

Repeat above process using the 1-1/4" circle punch on the decorative cardstock which will be the middle portion of the card.

Diorama11
Start construction:
Adhere middle & back section of card first:

Apply adhesive to the outside edge of the decorative cardstock.  Align ends of cardstock & adhere.

Diorama12

Repeat with other side so you end up with something like this:

Diorama13

Apply adhesive to front section edges & align & adhere to card body.

Diorama14

The finished project.  I stamped images from the In Full Bloom stamp set & applied some adhesive die cuts from the Simply Scrappin’ kit.

Diorama15

One of the best things?  This card folds flat and fits into the small open end Stampin’ Up! envelope!!

Wedding Invite Swap

WeddingswapI recently became a "swap angel" for a wedding invitation swap.  Basically, a person who had signed up for this swap was unable to participate, so after a call went out, I volunteered to take their place.  We were to make 12 wedding invitations and mail them to the swap hostess (Jacky).  We are in groups of 12, so you get one of everyone’s cards back – a great way to increase your samples & get great new ideas.  I chose to use Roses in Winter, which is one of my favourite floral sets.  I used a combination of colours that I always seem to turn to for this set – Pale Plum, Perfect Plum, Garden Green & Brocade Blue.   I used a large post it note as a mask and centred it on the cardstock, then stamped all around the edges of the cardstock.   After removing the  post it note mask, I edged along the border with the gold end of the Zig Painty Pen.  I printed the words on vellum paper and set it aside to dry before trimming to an appropriate size and adhered it to the card using a 2 hole bow.  Not only does this add a layer to the card, but it also allowed me some room to play with the positioning to centre the script on the card.  The vellum layer is actually narrower than the card itself.  I basically shifted the vellum around til I thought the words looked centred, and trimmed the side of the vellum accordingly.  Much easier than either printing onto the cardstock (again, positioning issues) or printing onto exact sized vellum.  I am looking forward to seeing the wonderful swaps that I’ll receive in return!
