Celebrating a Birthday!

Arlene's CardC

Isn’t this a great card? It was sent to me by one of my demonstrator team members, Arlene. Arlene was a longtime Stampers Club member who took the plunge just over a year ago and joined my team of demonstrators (we’re called the “Eh” Team!) – and her business is going great! Not bad for someone who was just looking to do something extra during the off season from golf…LOL. This gorgeous card features the Sale-a-Bration set Beautiful Peacock, and combined with a little Eastern Palace Designer Series Paper and Eastern Medallions Thinlits Dies for this gorgeous result. (Check the YamStamps Facebook Page a little later to see another card using these products from another friend!).

I’m looking to celebrate all this week – well, at least until the end of the month, so you get the presents! Here’s how to get in on the birthday gifting….
1) Place an order before the end of the month, and receive a little extra “bling” from me (under separate cover, in most cases…) AND an entry to a draw for either a Big Shot or set of Stampin’ Write Markers!
2) If you place your order ONLINE HERE and either use host code CS2YEX9S OR place an order of $200 or more (which qualifies for Stampin’ Rewards), I’ll also send you a tutorial bundle at the end of the month via email
3) Join my group of demonstrators by the end of the month – receive the bling and tutorials AND an extra draw entry! More information on joining my group here.

Just a word of warning – PLEASE don’t leave it to the last minute! Traditionally the Stampin’ Up! site gets bogged down on the last day of Sale-a-Bration (this year – March 31st) – because everyone is trying to get in before the deadline!  (Fine print – promotion valid only through me, and offer open to Canadians only due to Stampin’ Up! regulations)

If you have any questions, or need assistance signing up or placing an order, please feel free to contact me.

How Crafting Helps Me With Life Balance

yamstamps crane balance

If you’re in Ontario – Happy Family Day! If you’re not – Happy Monday! On this Family Day, I find myself reflecting on family….and trying to keep a work – life balance (if there is such a thing!).

That’s me and my son in 2002 – when we were living in British Columbia. This is about the time when I started with Stampin’ Up! Canada as a demonstrator. The company was expanding into Canada from the US and I jumped on board. Crafting gave me a creative outlet and helped me carve out some me time  to get some life balance. At the time, I lived in an area where I had to take a ferry to get to Vancouver (and area), and we had no craft store locally. It wasn’t unusual for me to spend a day to travel into the city, drive to a stamp store or craft store (plus hit the big box stores and maybe a mall LOL), then turn around and head home again (usually with toddler in tow, so it wasn’t always the most efficient trip either haha). This would happen maybe once a month at the most? (My memory grows foggy). Anyway. I realized that signing up to be a demonstrator would be the easy way to get my own paper crafting supplies delivered right to my door! The other bonus was that it gave me an opportunity to socialize with other adults. While I did enjoy being the parent of a young child, there’s only so much conversation you can have with a toddler…so this definitely came at the right point in my life! I often do card classes with moms who are enjoying a chance to get together with their friends and have some “me” time, so I know I was not an anomaly!

Fast forward a few years….LOL. I continued with my Stampin’ Up! business, which survived a cross country move (back to Ontario to be closer to my extended family), and managed to grow my business while keeping a “regular day job” in health care as well. Around 2014 I was getting burned out with my day job, though. My job was flexible, but I was finding that the flexible component often had to be me! Demands were growing higher, as was my caseload, despite my efforts to set limits. This, on top of parenting was a lot to manage, and life balance was definitely out of whack! So I made the decision to reduce my day job hours – officially becoming a part time employee. This allowed me to continue with client care, but gave me the opportunity to enforce some boundaries so that I would not get so burned out again. My Stampin’ Up! business was able to fill some of the income gap, while continuing to give me a much needed creative outlet and socialization (at this time, I was the parent of a young teenager, and once again, conversation with a teen boy can be limited…)!

These days, I enjoy that I can change my schedule to choose to spend time with my teen, as I am realizing that he’s not going to be in the family home for much longer! (selfie photo is from a family trip to England a few years ago). My Stampin’ Up! job is flexible, but I’m the boss, so I’m in control of the schedule and workload!

I am going to spend this Family Day enjoying a little down time and hanging out with my teen (well, as much as he’ll let me haha!). Maybe I’ll also get a little crafting in there as well….we’ll see what the boss says….!

Dragonfly Dreams Swap Card

This past weekend I was able to take part in an event for Canadian Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators. The Canadian Business Conference was organized by Stampin’ Up! Canada staff and a group of high level demonstrators. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn from the speakers (mostly other demonstrators), be inspired both creatively and business-wise, and meet up with new and old friends from across the country, in an intimate and supportive setting. It was fantastic and a good “shot in the arm” for me, both personally and professionally.

I participated in two organized swaps, featuring a designated stamp set. One was for the Occasions Catalogue set, Dragonfly Dreams. This was my contribution above. Slightly hard to see, but there’s shimmer on the wings thanks to the Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush – one of my favourite tools these days! I brayered on colour from the Bermuda Bay Ombre Ink Pad in the background. For the dragonfly, I stamped the image in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, then inked the solid wing image with my own “ink pad” made from a baby wipe with drops of reinkers before stamping in place. The coordinating framelit means no fussy cutting – yay! After I completed eleven of these cards, I realized that I missed something…..I was supposed to have some sort of embellishment on the card….so I added some rhinestones to the upper left and lower right corners of the Bermuda Bay strip. Note to self: check the swap card requirements BEFORE designing your card in future. (you can see the adjusted final swap card in the collage below). Collage features scenes from the weekend: tablemates, friends, swap cards and a fog enshrouded CN Tower!

I actually didn’t take as many photos as I thought I would – I was too busy being inspired by all the great information and great people in the room! We had assigned seating at round tables, which was a great way to mix and mingle, and on the final night, we were able to go up the CN Tower for dinner if we wanted. Even though it was foggy (boo) it was okay because I think we spent more time laughing and talking than looking out the windows! I am looking forward to the next time I will see many of these great ladies – at Stampin’ Up!’s On Stage event in April. I am grateful to all the organizers of the event, and (I know it sounds twee but it’s true) grateful that I have my Stampin’ Up! business because it’s brought so much to my life. [OK. Enough of that! Back to being my usual sarcastic self haha].

A reminder that the end of the month is drawing near (how does that happen so quickly??!!) as is the next Monthly Card Class. February’s class will be Wednesday, February 1 – either at 1pm or 7pm. Registration deadline is January 30, $20 class fee includes all supplies and envelopes to make 4 different cards, one of which will be suitable to use for Valentine’s Day or some other “love”ly occasion that you might have coming up. Please contact me to register. Remember that if you can’t make it to class at that time, get a group of friends together and we can have a private class! Hope to see you soon.

An Inspiring Weekend!

ly-4947

This past weekend, Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators around the world gathered in various locations to learn, be inspired and have fun! Five of my demonstrator group (we are named the “Eh” Team!) members joined me in Ottawa, ON where we attended the On Stage event on Saturday. On Friday evening, I also attended a smaller leadership event called Centre Stage, where we also learned, were inspired and had fun, in a more intimate dinner meeting setting. I was actually a little worried about making it in time as my flight was cancelled at the last minute – however I did manage to make it in plenty of time.

At our Centre Stage dinner table (Kim photobombing LOL); and our table, with Carrie from the Canadian Stampin’ Up! office – Nancy, Kim, Jacinthe, Carrie, me, Jenn and Sofi.

I brought sparkly lanyards for each of my attending team members, but I realize you can’t see the bling in the above photo! I got a lovely number of ribbons to attach to my name tag as well. It was a good business year for me – thank you to all of my customers and team members! It’s great to be able to celebrate with friends.

Members of the “Eh” Team who were able to make it to Ottawa for the On Stage event! Gail, me, Mary, Karen, Kim and Leanne at the end of the day (which is why we look a little tired?!). We were too busy stamping, swapping and socializing to get a pic before then! We got lots of prizes and goodies, plus the upcoming Occasions and Sale-a-Bration catalogues! This is what I can show you so far of all that….

Sorry! We are under a gag order right now! (That’s Scott Nielsen, Stampin’ Up!’s CFO who hosted our Ottawa event).  However, you can look forward to seeing lots of the new product very soon. The next seasonal catalogues and Sale-a-Bration will be in effect in January 2017. I’m working on my mailing list right now – if you’ve placed an order with me in the last year, I will automatically you the Occasions & Sale-a-Brations catalogues when they are available. If you are interested in getting them, and not sure if you automatically qualify for a free one from me, please fill out this form so I can get in touch with you and get you copies! If you absolutely can’t wait and need to see things NOW plus want to get in on the merchandise preorder, join my demonstrator group! In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or leave a comment below.
