You don’t have to be a watercolouring expert for this class! If you’ve taken the Watercolour 101 Online Class, you’ll have the basics for this one. If you haven’t taken it, no worries. This class focuses on adding textures to watercolour wash backgrounds. The first class video quickly covers a watercolour wash, and then moves right into how to make your wash backgrounds even more fantastic.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Do I have to know how to watercolour to take this class?

A: While watercolouring knowledge is helpful, because this is a technique based class on adding textures to watercolour wash backgrounds, you don’t need a lot of skill. (Trust me, I’m not a professional watercolour painter!) See below for level of painting skill required….

if you can do something like this, you’re ready for Watercolour 201!

Q: Do I need a lot of equipment to take the Watercolour 201 online class?

A: This is an online class with pre-recorded videos, so you can watch them whenever you have the chance to learn the techniques, and use supplies you have on hand. You’ll need a device capable of showing video and an internet connection for this.
Basic Craft Essentials: Watercolour Paper, a paint brush, and a source of colour. I used the Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper that Stampin’ Up! carries, cut in half, the Water Painters, and ReInkers like this one. You’ll get a list of what’s required for the techniques in the class site when it opens. (Hey, have to have some mystery involved, still, right?!) They’re things you likely have in your home, so don’t worry. Plus you have lifetime access to the videos, so you can watch whenever it suits your schedule!

Helpful to have: painters tape/washi tape and a surface to tape your work onto – I used a Stamparatus Deluxe Foam Mat; you could also use a Silicone Craft Mat or any flat clean surface that can be wiped/washed afterwards – like a cutting board or clipboard. Also nice to have but not mandatory – Stampin’ Spritzers but you could use your brush with water or an empty spritz bottle filled with water.

You’ll have lifetime access to the videos once you’ve registered. Please note that class videos are for the personal use of paid students only.

You can find out more about the Watercolour 201 class here and take advantage of Early Bird Pricing! Save $5 until the class launches Thursday 13 January. You can also contact me if you have any other questions. Otherwise, I hope to “see” you in class!

Embossed Autumn Card

I love this embossed autumn card and how easy it was to put together. Heat embossing is a technique that I love for adding easy elegance and wow to my projects, but I haven’t used it a lot recently, so I pulled it out for this card. (If you want to learn more about embossing, you’ll want to read to the end of this post…).

Super easy card because it uses one sheet of Designer Series Paper. It’s the Beauty of the Earth Paper, and the one side of the sheet is a blue watercoloured wash effect, while the other side is a multicoloured leaf pattern. If you want to be even thriftier in your crafting then I was, you can actually just use one piece that is 3.75″ x 5″ and cut a centre strip from it, then flip it over to reveal the other side’s design. I however, was slightly lazier, and just cut another strip and adhered it on top.

I stamped the sentiment in Versamark ink, then heat embossed with gold embossing powder (available in the Metallics Embossing Powders set). I added some die cut leaves from the Forever Flourishing Dies for some extra texture and interest.

If you like the look of this embossed autumn card and want to learn more about embossing for your paper crafting, you’ll want to be on the lookout for my Black Friday special! My Embossing 101 and Beyond online class is coming out of the vault for 4 days only! Friday 26 November to Monday 29 November, you’ll be able to purchase lifetime access to the class for just $5 Canadian. While some of the product used in the technique videos may have retired, the actual techniques can be used with whatever embossing supplies you have on hand (and you’ll see a couple of crafting “hacks” as well).

Watercolour 101 Class

If you’re on my mailing list, you’ll have already received information about my next online class – Watercolour 101. It’s an online class showing you basic watercolour techniques and ways to incorporate it into your rubber stamping, cardmaking and paper crafting. Early Bird Pricing is on right now (save $5 off regular class price) until class opens Thursday 11 November 2021. Click here for the Class info/registration page or check out the video below.

Here’s some FAQs (and their answers)

Q: When does the class start?
A: Early bird pricing is on now ($20CAD, save $5). The class site will open Thursday 11 November 2021.

Q: Is this an online class?
A: Yes. Once you’ve paid and registered (through the links on the class info page), you’ll have access to the site (after 11 Nov 21) and can watch the class videos there.

Q: Is there a specific time for the class?
A: No – this is a self paced, learn as you’re able type of class with prerecorded videos. The videos will be there for you to watch and re-watch as needed, whenever you have the chance – all you need is internet & a phone/tablet/computer!

Q: How long do I have to access this class?
A: Lifetime access (or reasonable facsimile?!). Basically once you’ve paid, (and once the class officially launches) you’ll be able to access class materials (videos, written info) whenever you need to!

Q: What supplies do I need?
A: One item from each of the first three categories will do to start – (links to show examples, not necessarily exact items used during the videos)
Colouring mediawatercolour pencils, reinkers/dye ink pads (like Stampin’ Up! classic ink pads), water soluble markers (like Stampin’ Up! Stampin’ Write Markers),
Application tools – paint brushes, Aqua Painters / Water Painters, Blender Pens
Papers – recommended: Watercolour Paper, also useable: Shimmery White Cardstock, can also use Thick Basic White or Basic White Cardstock but limitations to these.
Other: stamps – outline stamps, solid stamps, StazOn or solvent based / non-watersoluble ink (NOT dye based inks), paper towel, clear stamp blocks/old plate/paint palette

You do not need all of these supplies, and can probably make do with what you already have on hand (you may be surprised…). Some of these videos have been in the YamStamps vault for a little while, so you’ll notice that I use some retired stamps, and some of the tools have been replaced by updated versions (that work the same way!).

You’ll be able to take the techniques that you see in the Watercolour 101 class and apply them to your rubber stamping and cardmaking efforts. It’s a fun, artistic way to add some colour to your crafting! Please feel free to message me if you have any questions, otherwise I hope to “see” you in class!

Fuss Free Fancy Folds!

Here at the YamStamps site, you’ll know that my preference is for easy and impressive cards. I want my paper crafting projects to look great, but I do not want to spend hours labouring on one item! I have Netflix series to binge and chai lattes to drink, and I can’t always do those at the same time if the craft is too demanding….

So my new Fancy Folds online class is aimed at anyone who wants cards that are extraordinary, but only require ordinary paper crafting tools and an ordinary amount of time to create!
