Come to (Online) Class!

I don’t know about you, but I miss getting together and being creative. Thankfully, I get a “fix” through my Stampers Club. We’re currently meeting online, and while it’s not quite the same as getting together in person, it’s truly fun to see each other and catch up, and the bonus is that we get to make some cards at the same time! I’m going to be offering a regular Online Class now – read on to find out more.

The screenshot is from one of our last Club sessions – after everyone arrives and says hello, I switch to an overhead view so people can see how the cards are constructed. Some choose to make them along with me, and others choose to partially make them or just watch, and then go back to watch the recording later. The advantage of working with the recording is that you can stop/rewind/fastforward and work at your own speed.

Stampers Club has a 6 month commitment (you can find out more details here or message me with questions), and I know not everyone is ready for that serious a relationship haha! So – I’m going to offer an online class on a regular basis now. I’ve had classes by mail as an option, but I think that for those who like the interaction, and like to see how things are put together, this is a great alternative.

WHAT: Online Card Class
WHEN: Wednesday, March 10 – 7pm Eastern and recording access afterward on a members only site REGISTRATION DEADLINE FEBRUARY 28th
WHERE: Online; using Zoom
WHO: Registered Participants – including you?!
WHY: Because it’s good to connect and create!
HOW: to register….message me for a payment link. Cost is $20CAD and includes a class packet that has precut supplies for the cards we will be making. You supply the adhesive, and folding/cutting tools. You can use your stamps & ink that you have on hand to finish the card as desired with sentiments. If you need any of the basic supplies (adhesive, tools etc) – you can message me or shop the YamStamps Online Stampin’ Up! Canada store at YamStamps.com/shop Class fee payment options – etransfer or PayPal. You will receive your package via Canada Post and I will email the link for our Zoom class closer to the date, as well as information to access the Members Online site later for the recording.

I’m hoping that my Online Class will give another option to get creative on a month-by-month basis and you don’t have to be local to me (Burlington ON) – you can be anywhere in Canada! Your class spot is reserved once I have received your payment. REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR MARCH CLASS IS FEBRUARY 28. Message me if you have questions or leave a comment below. Hope to see you in class!

No Stamping Required Card

My Stampers Club and Card Classes are being held virtually right now, and one of the Stampin’ Up! rules about class kits that I send out is that I can’t pre-stamp anything. It makes sense, especially when you want to learn about card making and stamping, but it has been stretching my creative brain cells a bit at times! This no stamping required card thankfully came together fairly quickly so that was nice!

One thing that made this card easy was that I used items from the same suite. They’re all from the Fine Art Floral Suite Collection in the January-June 2021 Mini Catalogue. This is one of my favourite suites! (OK disclaimer, I’m not into the Gilded Leafing because I’m a messy crafter to start, and that stuff would be absolutely everywhere for a very long time). Anyway. I used my current favourite embossing folder, Painted Texture for the backing piece and then added some of the 3/8″ Fine Art Ribbon. It’s a subtle metallic – if there’s such a thing.

To finish the card, I simply die cut some Stitched Rectangles from Poppy Parade Cardstock and the Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper. I actually used my new Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine for this step – it’s such a cute little machine! It would be perfect to take to a crop (whenever we get to do things like that again). I also love that it doesn’t take up much room on my crafting surface – so I have more room to spread out my crafting supplies and mess LOL.

I really like putting main elements towards the bottom right of my cardfronts….I think it adds a bit more interest than always centering the focal image, which I otherwise tend to do.

Last but not least – if you’re missing card classes, join me in March for my Online Card Class. This is one of the no stamping required cards we’ll make together. I’ll send you the packet of precut class materials ahead of time, then we’ll get together on a Zoom conference call March 10th. If you can’t make it on that date, no worries! You’ll have access to the recording afterward so that you can watch at your leisure.

Class fee is $20 and includes postage of class materials to your home in Canada. You can contact me to register and to get payment links. Deadline for registration is February 28 to allow for postage time. You will need an adhesive of your choice and something that you can score and cut cardstock with, plus Stampin’ Dimensionals are a nice option. You can add stamping from your stash on hand after the class! When I had in person events, a lot of people would actually opt to leave the sentiments out at the time anyway and add them later, once they knew the occasion for which they would be using the card.

I hope you’re enjoying your Family Day (or whatever it’s called in your neck of the woods…). I’m looking to spending time with some of my crafty family tonight – aka the Stampers Club! It’s our online class, and it’s always fun to see each other and catch up a bit, while also getting to share some crafting. I’m off to make sure everything’s charged up and that I have a reasonably cleared worktop!

Hello September!

Hello September! I often think of September much like January – the start of a new year or phase. This September is definitely different than previous Septembers, and one of the things I missed most this year was the Back to School shopping excitement. I am totally one of those geeks who loves new pens, pencils, paper, notebooks….so perhaps it’s a good thing I missed out on most of that shopping because I’m sure I saved some money along the way – well at least in that section of my budget.

Here’s a card to say hello – whether it’s to a month or to a friend. It’s part of a previous Class to Go and Stampers Club. I love how simple shapes can be manipulated to make a more complex effect!

hello card

I love the Playful Alphabet Dies – and I love that there are multiples of many letters, meaning it’s easy to die cut whole words at one time (without having to go back and re-cut a single letter). The other feature on this card is circles (or semi-circles) – so I used the Layering Circles dies, plus the smallest Mango Melody Circle on the background is actually the centre of the “o”. Can you see the “trick” to make the colours line up on the larger semi-circles to emphasize the swooping motion? You need extra circles to do it – two of the largest and second smallest circles, one of each of the colours (in this case, Cajun Craze and Daffodil Delight). You only need one of the second largest circle in one colour (Mango Melody in the sample). We were laughing in Stampers Club at the colours – they’re a little “retro” – and someone mentioned that we just needed an Avocado Green shade (hmm I guess the closest Stampin’ Up! shade might be Old Olive – or maybe Mossy Meadow??) to go with the “Harvest Gold” like theme and we would have a totally 70’s card.

One of the challenges I face with doing club virtually is figuring out the projects. Normally when we meet in person, I have the stamps and inks required for the different projects on the table, and each person uses them for that card. Right now participants are picking up (or receiving their card kits in the mail) – and Stampin’ Up! prohibits us from including any pre-stamped images in our kits, so the cards we do in Stampers Club these days are tending to be based on techniques, papers, die cuts or punched images (because I can include those). If a card could use a sentiment on it that is stamped, I usually will include a die cut or punched label or tag, but then each person can add their own sentiment from the craft supplies they have in their stash. Class to Go operates under the same format – you get all pre-cut cardstock/embellishments or pre-die cut/ punched elements for each card, plus an envelope. You supply the adhesive (or let me know if you need some and you can purchase some to be included in your kit) and have the option to add stamped sentiments of your choice.

I’ll be adding a few Bundle Classes in the next while that will focus on a particular stamp & tool combination. While the supplies will be still be precut, the projects may require further stamping or die cutting for completion as per the samples. If you’re interested in joining us, drop me a message and I’ll get you set up! Club is a 6 month commitment, Class to Go is a stand alone (i.e. no ongoing commitment), and Bundle Classes will also be stand alone (though you’ll want the featured bundle to complete the projects as per the class samples).

In the meantime, I will continue to create cards that also require stamping in addition to die cutting and punches – because that’s what I do…LOL! Wishing everyone a safe and smooth return to routine – recognizing that our routine may be a new and unfamiliar one – at least to start.

Die Cut Snowflake Card

I’m sharing this easy die cut snowflake card with you today that features the Snowfall Thinlits Dies that are available during November. I love how simple it is to create something so intricate! The most work is rolling it through the Big Shot, I think!

The larger snowflake is die cut from a Silver Foil sheet, and the smaller snowflake is die cut from Sparkle Glimmer Paper. I love how the new Glimmer Papers really hold their glimmer well – no shedding of glitter or glimmer! The snowflakes are mounted onto a piece of Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Series Paper and backed by a piece of Tranquil Tide Cardstock.

yamstamps die cut snowflake card

I do really like this die cut snowflake card so will be pulling it out for a few classes this month, I think! We did this card in Carolanne’s Private Card Class this past weekend. She got a large group of family and friends together to craft – so much fun! (Thanks for asking me to do this one, Carolanne!).

That Joyous Noel Paper has been very popular – so popular that it’s now unavailable to order! Any backorders already in the system will be honoured, but no more orders can be placed for this item – as there’s no way that the product would arrive before the holidays. Sad but true. Two embellishments have also oversold their projected numbers – Farmhouse Elements and Santa’s Workshop Enamel Accents. Funny how all THREE of these items have been featured in my monthly Christmas Card Classes! So – if you are wanting to join the November 28th Christmas Card Class that uses the Farmhouse Elements, be sure to register with me asap so I can set aside a set of the elements for you. (Don’t worry, I have enough for class registrants).

I do have some good news though, if you were hoping to enroll in the Joyous Noel Online Christmas Card Class. I’ve added a cardstock/paper supplies option to this class! For $30 I will mail you the precut cardstock/Designer Series Paper you’ll need for the cards from the class. You’ll still need to supply your own stamps, ink and adhesives, but if you really want to reproduce the exact cards, you still have that opportunity. Supplies are limited, though, so if you want to choose this option, please don’t wait too long. The Online Class only option (the “regular” option) is still available as well. You could easily substitute other Designer Series Papers for the ones we used – use the card designs as a template and use your own cardstocks and papers. You can get more information on the Joyous Noel Online Card Class here (the live video portions will be done in our group next week). You can get information on all the currently available YamStampsMore Online Classes here. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Hope to see you in class – either in person or online, soon!

Online Christmas Card Class!

Remember that office supply store commercial that ran around this time of year proclaiming “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”?! I used that song as inspiration when I was designing cards for the July Christmas Card Class – which is now available as an Online Christmas Card Class. If you aren’t close to Burlington ON and can’t attend in person, this is the next best thing! Get all four designs, the full supply list and step by step instructions, plus lifetime access and support. I’ll also be doing Facebook Live videos in the group to show the construction of each card.

Online Christmas Card Class - bonus design

I did a Facebook Live video earlier this week showing how to create this bonus design – it’s a “cheater” Iris fold card. You can see the video on the YamStamps Facebook Page, or try this link which should go directly to the video. If you “like” the YamStamps Facebook page, you’ll get notifications the next time I do a live video! The Online Christmas Card Class features four different designs using the Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper – but you could technically use any Designer Series Paper I suppose! To get more information about the class and purchase lifetime access, please visit www.yamstamps.com/mistletoe

If you are local to Burlington ON and want to try a class in person, the next Christmas Card Class will be Wednesday, August 22 at 1pm or 7pm. Please contact me to register. Cost is $20 and includes all supplies required to create 4 different cards using the new set of Watercolour Pencils available this month from Stampin’ Up! Registration deadline is Monday, August 20. The deadline has already passed to get a set of pencils included with your class (The “deluxe” class fee of $40) – but if you like you can either place an order at the class itself, or pay the express shipping surcharge to be sure that your pencils arrive before class. And yes, this class will be turned into the next Online Christmas Card Class – so if you can’t make it in person, watch for the announcement about the online version. Hope to see you in class (in person or “virtually”) – soon!
