Variations on a Theme

LY-1573LY-1257

Here are two variations on a card design! Inspired by a card by Jenny Peterson, this is a fun and easy design that you can change up to suit the colours and occasion! The first card is a Father’s Day card, using the Go Wild Designer Series Paper Stack* and the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder* (which doesn’t really show up in the photo, sorry – it’s on the Basic Black Cardstock). The second card uses the Going Places Designer Series Paper Stack* and the Lucky Stars Embossing Folder.  Both cards use the Washi Label Punch* (already sold out!) and Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set which is available in wood mount or clear mount. All the products with the * are retiring – and available until May 31 or while supplies last. As you can see, the punch is already gone! You could replace it in this sample with banners from the Bitty Banners* framelits set  or simply cut the papers to the desired size.

Grab your retiring products while you can! You can shop online 24/7 in the YamStamps Online Stampin’ Up! Canada store, or contact me for assistance placing your order. Don’t forget to RSVP for the New Catalogue Open House & Retired Product Sale! Saturday June 4 from 9am til noon. See you soon!

Inlaid Die Cut Card

inlaid-die-cut-card

This is a fun and easy technique to do with your die cuts! This card uses one of the Stampin’ Up! Greetings Thinlit dies and the Zig Zag Embossing Folder. Die cut the “hello” from Crumb Cake cardstock, and then die cut from Mossy Meadow. Use the Crumb Cake “hello” to fill in the negative space on the Mossy Meadow cardstock – that’s how easy this technique is! Mass production tip – cut strips of Mossy Meadow and Crumb Cake cardstock, die cut with the same placement and switch out your die cut words – so you can create twice as many cards easily, with contrasting backgroound strips. The colours in this card (Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip and Mossy Meadow) tend to give a more masculine feel, but you can switch out the colours (and the embossing folder) easily to create a different feel for the card.

Don’t forget this tip to make removing your more intricate die cuts easy. (from the YamStamps YouTube channel). With this thinlit, I found that I didn’t actually need to use the waxed paper to get easy removal. I did end up with some of the holes embossing through (the dots on the die cut) – but this occurred even if I used nothing, so I used the dryer sheet to make my life a little easier.

I’m looking forward to trying out some of my new Holiday Catalogue goodies that just arrived, so will try to get to work on posting some projects with those new items!

Not That We’re Keeping Track or Anything…

umpteenth-birthdayThis expression makes me laugh, and I thought it was great for a fun birthday card. The sentiment is from the Stampin’ Up! set Oh My Goodies and when you have a monochromatic card, adding a hit of colour makes the one element really stand out. In this case, the new In Colour Cucumber Crush adds the pop. At the Monthly Card Classes and Stamp Clubs, there is always at least one card that is more masculine or “gender neutral” as my customers (as well as I) always have a need for those – and tend to be the most scan in my stash of cards.

If you are looking to build up your stash of cards, there’s a bunch of options open to you! Monthly Card Classes, Stampers Club and upcoming Christmas Card and Tin of Card Classes! I will have the schedule finalized shortly and will post it – and it will be for sure in the July YamStamps Monthly Paper Crafting Newsletter for subscribers. School is out, the schedule is slowing down (slightly) and I’ve got big plans to be crafty!!

Make a Wish Perfect Pennants Card

make a wish cardI love how Designer Series Papers make my card making so much faster and easier… This card uses the This and That Epic Day DSP – one of my favourites. It’s combined with the Perfect Pennants Bundle from the Occasions Catalogue that combines the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set  and the Banners Framelits Dies.

As with all my projects using DSP, I usually just look to the back of the packaging to come up with the colours I will use in the project – I just pull colours that are featured in the designs. In this case, it was Basic Gray and Calypso Coral. This is a card we made at Stampers Club, and I make a point to be sure that at least one card each month has a more masculine feel to it…otherwise we tend to go with what we like, which may not always suit for both genders.

I am finalizing the details for the Inbox Inspiration program which is set to launch in the next few days – so stay tuned for the launch announcement and all the details!

Masculine Birthday Card

bday-card-masculineI love Stampin’ Up!’s the Open Sea for a masculine card – and here I paired it with a circular image from Blue Ribbon to create a birthday card. I also used a strip of Designer Series Paper from the Epic Day This and That package, and some linen thread, the cheapest most versatile accessory I think I own! Those neutral accessories always go far – did you see that the Burlap Ribbon is on sale this week? That’s in the same category for me.

Can you believe we’re almost half way through November? Even though I do the 12 Weeks of Christmas mailings and have to keep on top of that schedule during the countdown to Christmas, I always find myself a bit shocked at how the time flies. We only have one more monthly Christmas Card Class left – in December!! However – there is a Stamp a Stack on Saturday, November 30th – so you can make 10 Christmas cards (2 each of 5 different designs) in one of the two sessions. Cards are the same for both sessions…though I guess if you came for both, you’d have 20 cards…LOL. Anyway – if you need to build up your stash of handmade cards, please register for one of the sessions! You can do so on the events page itself, or by contacting me by email.
