May 22, 2014 | cards, Stampin' Up!
I like making square cards – they’re very symmetrical and a bit more unusual, though no more difficult to create.
This card is 4.25″ x 4.25″ – so you cut your cardstock at 4.25″ x 8.5″ to create the card base. Then to create the rest of this easy card, the Designer Series Paper (Watercolour Wonder) is cut into 1.5″ squares and mounted onto a 3.5″ Tangerine Tango square. The Happy Birthday sentiment from the Label Love set was punched out with the Artisan Label punch (easy when your stamps & punches coordinate – these ones are also available in a bundle!) and then stuck onto the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Quick and easy – my kind of card!

I hope you had a great Victoria Day! (or whatever they might call it in your neck of the woods across Canada). Don’t worry, my American friends, your long weekend is coming up, so you will also have a short week soon, too LOL. Here are this week’s deals – lots of ribbons to replenish your stock, and I always think that digital downloads are a great deal – you will never run out of the supplies in those kits! May 15, 2014 | cards, Stampin' Up!
This was a fun card to create. The brush stroke stamp from Happy Watercolour (OK I know the set is listed as Happy Watercolor, but I can’t bring myself to spell it that way, being the daughter of a born & bred Canadian teacher LOL). Anyway. Stamped it in Real Red, Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point onto watercolour paper, and then used Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz to blur the images. I could have used water, but thought the Smooch Spritz would be more fun. Though you can’t see it quite so well in the image, it’s got a shimmer to it! Waited for it to dry (OK, sped it along with my heat tool), then stamped the sentiment on top.
At the risk of dating myself, after stamping it, I realized it reminded me of the cover of the Police’s Synchronicity
album… so then I had to go look it up online
– ok, so not exact (I’m getting older) but pretty close….or as I like to say “Similar but different”. And with that, I’m off to listen to some of my favourite 80’s tunes.

One of the fun ways to make your handmade card stand out even more is by using an unusual fold. This is a fancy fold card that we did at Stampers Club last month – and depending on the inside sentiment(s), it could be for Mother’s Day, a birthday, and thank you…. The great thing about making your own cards is that you can customize them to your card-giving needs!
The back Crisp Canteloupe cardstock is 4.25″ x 8.5″, scored/folded at 5.5″, and the inner portion is Coastal Cabana, cut to 3″ x 8″, scored/folded in half at 4″. We used the Mixed Bunch set for the floral images and the (retired) One in A Million sentiment set for the greeting. (The innermost greeting that you can’t see came from Teeny Tiny Wishes). Don’t forget that all Stampin’ Up!’s retiring product is available only on a while supplies last basis. You can check online here to see if an item is still available (it won’t show up if it’s sold out).
Speaking of greetings…the new Stampin’ Up! Catalogue is going to feature a visual index of all the word stamps – so you can look through and figure out what set has what sentiment (rather than flipping through the entire book, or standing in front of your stamp set storage, rummaging about….)! I’m looking forward to that! If you want a copy of the new catalogue, be sure to let me know. I’ll also be holding my annual Rubber Garage Sale and New Catalogue Open House and will let you know the date once I get it confirmed! (also the location….in case I move before then ROFLOL).

May 3, 2014 | scrapbooking, Stampin' Up!
I’m in the process of playing with my new Project Life by Stampin’ Up! products! This is my first almost completed page…and as you can see by some of the smaller, slightly askew photos, I haven’t stuck anything down yet…but I think that’s part of what I like about this system so far. If you are following me on Instagram you will have seen the “before” version of this page, where I basically was just putting all the different components into the pockets to get a combination that I liked or found inspiring. In this version of the page, I’ve included some photos that I printed myself (so obviously need to work on the sizing of the photos when I print them if I want them to fill the whole pocket). I still have a spot for journalling, I have a spot that is just fun, and I have lots of shots. The die cut “life is an adventure” is backed with another small card to make the words colourful. All the Stampin’ Up! Project Life pieces are double sided (except for the die cuts…) so when you flip your page over, there’s something else to look at.
So to finish this page off, I’ll add some journalling, and may or may not stick those smaller photos permanently onto their mats. For future, I might just get regular sized photos and use my Project Life Framelits to die cut them to exactly the right size. Stampin’ Up!’s Project Life products are also available as digital downloads, so I’ll be able to create a totally digital layout or print extras of my favourite cards.
May 2, 2014 | Stampin' Up!, Tutorial, TV/Video/Web/Tech
Semi-regularly, I’ll post a Frugal Friday idea. Today’s idea helps you to get more life out of those icky, old glue sticks. You know, the ones you didn’t quite get the cap on correctly, or haven’t used in ages so the glue dries up into a hard, yellowy lump. Not sure what I’m talking about? Check out my video to see!! LOL. Don’t forget if you’d like to stock up on more glue sticks, they’re only available while supplies last…
This Tool Tip was shot on my iphone…so at one point things aren’t quite perfectly framed….but you’ll still get the idea! The video is embedded below, if you can’t see it, click here to go to the video on the YamStamps Youtube channel.
Apr 30, 2014 | Big Shot, cards, rubber stamping, Stampin' Up!
Stampin’ Up!’s Daydream Medallions is a set that I have had in my collection for a little while now, and I should have been using it more often!! LOL. This card uses the stamp set and the coordinating Floral Frames Framelits Dies for the Big Shot, so creating this medallion effect is EASY (especially with the Magnetic Platform)!!! Stamp, die cut, layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added a Vintage Faceted Designer Button to the centre of the top medallion as well. Obviously, this is a special card that’s appropriate for hand delivered options. If you wanted to mail it, you would want to put it into a padded envelope, or use SNAIL vs the Dimensionals to make it flatter. This could be a great Mother’s Day card!
OK I’m off to ensure that my house looks entirely unlived in (aka ready for showing as it’s up for sale!! LOL). Living like this has put a bit of a crimp in my crafting time – as I am a bit of a messy crafter so I’m fearful of getting going on something and then having to clean it up quickly! However, I am actually learning to craft a bit more neatly, and perfecting the “clean as you go” crafting way….
