Jun 5, 2014 | cards, Stampin' Up!
I think this could be a great Father’s Day card! The Silver Foil Cardstock was embossed with the Argyle Embossing Folder – I think it kind of looks like the detailing on some of the running boards on trucks. (I’m sure there’s probably a “proper” name for that, but I am obviously not so savvy). Anyway – between that and the colours (Smoky Slate and Basic Black) – this card has that masculine feel to it. The main image is from Chalk Talk, and the Tag Topper Scalloped Punch adds a fun detail as well.
I’ll keep this short but sweet, since I’m preparing to head out to the Holy Rosary School Fun Fair later today here in Burlington – if you can stop by, come say “hi” at my table – check out the kits and cards I’ll have for sale, and try your hand at an easy project. Once I’m done there, I’ll be preparing for Saturday’s New Catalogue Open House and Rubber Garage Sale! Clearing out my retired crafting supplies to make room for the new (and to decrease the number of boxes I’ll be carting once I move in the very near future!). RSVP to make sure I have a copy of the catalogue set aside for you, and to get directions! See you soon!!

Here’s a sample of a masculine birthday card. I always make a point to include one masculine card in almost every class because often my customers will say that’s where they get stumped or find they don’t have a suitable stash. Epic Day Designer Series Paper (get it before it disappears forever) adds colour and pattern to this card that also uses the Chevron border punch and Blue Ribbon set. Like the points on the DSP and ribbon? Check out this past Tuesday Tip video on how to get flawless notched ends in your ribbon or DSP. You can always subscribe to the YamStamps Youtube channel so you won’t miss out on future videos. Happy Stamping!

Happy Tuesday! Hope my American friends had a good Memorial Day weekend. I spent it traveling home from Chicago…more on that at another point. In the meantime, here’s what you’ve been looking for – Stampin’ Up!’s Weekly Deals! My fave…well, you can never go wrong with a heart punch in my opinion, but the Typeset Bigz alpha is a great deal…and I don’t have the digital download yet! Happy Shopping – please contact me if you need assistance with placing an order.

I like making square cards – they’re very symmetrical and a bit more unusual, though no more difficult to create.
This card is 4.25″ x 4.25″ – so you cut your cardstock at 4.25″ x 8.5″ to create the card base. Then to create the rest of this easy card, the Designer Series Paper (Watercolour Wonder) is cut into 1.5″ squares and mounted onto a 3.5″ Tangerine Tango square. The Happy Birthday sentiment from the Label Love set was punched out with the Artisan Label punch (easy when your stamps & punches coordinate – these ones are also available in a bundle!) and then stuck onto the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Quick and easy – my kind of card!

I hope you had a great Victoria Day! (or whatever they might call it in your neck of the woods across Canada). Don’t worry, my American friends, your long weekend is coming up, so you will also have a short week soon, too LOL. Here are this week’s deals – lots of ribbons to replenish your stock, and I always think that digital downloads are a great deal – you will never run out of the supplies in those kits! This was a fun card to create. The brush stroke stamp from Happy Watercolour (OK I know the set is listed as Happy Watercolor, but I can’t bring myself to spell it that way, being the daughter of a born & bred Canadian teacher LOL). Anyway. Stamped it in Real Red, Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point onto watercolour paper, and then used Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz to blur the images. I could have used water, but thought the Smooch Spritz would be more fun. Though you can’t see it quite so well in the image, it’s got a shimmer to it! Waited for it to dry (OK, sped it along with my heat tool), then stamped the sentiment on top.
At the risk of dating myself, after stamping it, I realized it reminded me of the cover of the Police’s Synchronicity
album… so then I had to go look it up online
– ok, so not exact (I’m getting older) but pretty close….or as I like to say “Similar but different”. And with that, I’m off to listen to some of my favourite 80’s tunes.

One of the fun ways to make your handmade card stand out even more is by using an unusual fold. This is a fancy fold card that we did at Stampers Club last month – and depending on the inside sentiment(s), it could be for Mother’s Day, a birthday, and thank you…. The great thing about making your own cards is that you can customize them to your card-giving needs!
The back Crisp Canteloupe cardstock is 4.25″ x 8.5″, scored/folded at 5.5″, and the inner portion is Coastal Cabana, cut to 3″ x 8″, scored/folded in half at 4″. We used the Mixed Bunch set for the floral images and the (retired) One in A Million sentiment set for the greeting. (The innermost greeting that you can’t see came from Teeny Tiny Wishes). Don’t forget that all Stampin’ Up!’s retiring product is available only on a while supplies last basis. You can check online here to see if an item is still available (it won’t show up if it’s sold out).
Speaking of greetings…the new Stampin’ Up! Catalogue is going to feature a visual index of all the word stamps – so you can look through and figure out what set has what sentiment (rather than flipping through the entire book, or standing in front of your stamp set storage, rummaging about….)! I’m looking forward to that! If you want a copy of the new catalogue, be sure to let me know. I’ll also be holding my annual Rubber Garage Sale and New Catalogue Open House and will let you know the date once I get it confirmed! (also the location….in case I move before then ROFLOL).
