Take Two: Musical Note Card

This is another take on a musical note card – like the birthday card I shared here, it has the same black/white/red theme, because why mess with something that works?!

Musical Note Card

This is definitely a clean and simple card. It’s great for sending a note to a friend, whether they themselves are musical or not! Once again, the Stamparatus comes to the rescue, ensuring that the images from Music from the Heart are straight. Stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, then coloured with the Dark Real Red Stampin’ Blends Marker (this combination will ensure no bleeding of the stamped images). Shimmery Crystal Effects on the note because why not?! The Whisper White Note Card is a great size for this simple card.

I often think that the amount of thought that goes into creating a clean and simple design can be underrated. I know that as a cardmakers, we often think that “more is better” and that we need to be over the top in order for people to appreciate the hand-made-ness of the effort. Looking at some of the higher priced cards available in the stores, though, I have realized that a lot of them are of the clean and simple type, or featuring one main image, so as cardmakers, we need to be comfortable and confident when we choose not to overload our cardfronts.

Plus, lets be honest, once you’ve got the design, it’s easy to create/re-create a clean and simple card in a pinch! (#lazycrafter rules).

This Musical Note Card is great for any occasion (I’ve used it as a thank you card) but it could also be used for Valentine’s Day! Join us at Stampers Club/Monthly Card Class if you are local to Burlington ON and want to build up your card stash – or watch for my next Online Class Offering (I’m putting the finishing touches on it now) for ideas and inspiration wherever you are.

CongratYOUlations Card

Love this colour combination! This congratYOUlations card features some of the Sale-a-Bration product you can choose for free with qualifying orders!

CongratYOUlations Card

Love the clean feel of this grey and pink combo – it may pull me out of my “blue” project phase….at least for a while! Basic Gray (using Stampin’ Up! spelling there LOL), Blushing Bride and Melon Mambo are the shades used for this card. It uses one stamp set – Thoughtful Blooms (also available in a French Version, Fleurs Attentionnées)- which you can select for free with a $60 CAD product order, and the coordinating Small Bloom Punch, which you can select for free with a $120 CAD product order. I love the Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop up smaller shapes – like these flowers.

My hint for this card? Stamp the sentiment first. That way, if it’s not “perfect” you can flip the cardstock over. Once the sentiment is in place, it’s also easier to place the rest of the elements! The leaf sprays were stamped next, then the dots, then the little pink flowers. (OK maybe the flowers and dots were in reverse order, I can’t exactly remember now…). Stamp the flowers on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock, punch out with the punch (use it upside down so you can centre the image in the punch) and adhere with the Mini Dimensionals.

Demonstrators are able to preorder product before it’s available to the “general public”. For Sale-a-Bration items, demonstrators can actually purchase the items ahead of time, so to get a “jump” on creating with the products. (it’s the one period that these items can be purchased). It’s one of the fun perks of being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator (see more here! shameless plug haha). I personally like to pre-order a few items and then get the rest for free once they are available with a qualifying purchase!

I think I’m going to make a few extra of these CongratYOUlations cards to send to some of my demonstrator team to celebrate their accomplishments over the past month, and keep some on hand in my card stash for future celebrations!

DIY Get Well Soon Card

There are times when you want to send a card of encouragement to someone – like this DIY Get Well Soon Card. I love the sentiment because it is suitable for someone recovering from a physical ailment or an emotional event.

DIY Get Well Soon Card

This sentiment is from the So Sentimental stamp set, and it’s paired here with the Stitched So Sweetly Dies that I used to create the sentiment and backing pieces. You can purchase them together in a discounted bundle. I love how these particular die shapes are coordinated but not identical.

For this card, I paired the sentiment with an image from the Painted Poppies stamp set, and added a splash of colour with the splatter stamp from the set using Highland Heather and Balmy Blue ink pads. (Check out the colour I started with and then rejected in the post in the Paper Crafting with YamStamps Facebook Group!). The beautiful Gold Shimmer Ribbon is a non-catalogue item available while supplies last – it was introduced as part of the Christmastime is Here Suite – which you can purchase as part of the entire bundle or on its own.

The great thing about DIY cards – you can change out the sentiment to suit whatever occasion for which you need a card! I actually have a number of people who come to Card Class or Stampers Club and choose to leave the sentiment portion blank so they can fill it in with an appropriate sentiment from their stamps at home when the need arises.

If you are looking to build up your card stash, or needing a little creative / “me” time – join us at the next Monthly Card Class! Wednesday, February 5th – at 1pm or 7pm here in Burlington Ontario. Your $20 class fee covers all supplies required (including adhesive and envelopes) to create 4 different card projects. See the YamStamps Events Page for upcoming events, or contact me for more information or to register! We did this DIY Get Well Soon Card last month – but each month has a variety of cards covering many occasions (especially if you choose to leave the sentiment area blank!!). Hope to see you in a class soon.

Thank You Card – Survey Says…

Thanks to voters on the YamStamps Facebook Page – this is the preferred photo version of this thank you card. I put up a poll there just the other day and have received lots of responses – and the photo with the black background was voted as the favourite. (Well, so far, I guess the poll is still open but it seemed like it was fairly clear).

thank you card

This fun card uses the Witty-cisms stamp set, and my latest product obsession, Shimmery Crystal Effects. The stamp set is from the Jan-June Mini Catalogue, and the Shimmery Crystal Effects were featured in the Holiday Catalogue, which has now retired, but this product was carried over and is still available to be ordered. I love the 3D effect and the shiny, glittery touch it adds to my projects. In the case of this strawberry, I coloured it with Stampin’ Blends and I’m not sure if maybe it looks lighter/brighter after the Shimmery Crystal Effects application. Not that it would have stopped me from using it…LOL.

The other product I love on this card is the Basket Weave 3D Embossing Folder. I still can’t get over how effective this texture is, and I thought it was perfect for a strawberry image. I was thinking of a basket, but Carol on Facebook pointed out it looked like the lattice work on a fruit pie!

The other product featured on this card is the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. You can purchase them on their own or in a discounted bundle with the So Sentimental stamp set. I love how the dies work together but aren’t identical.

Just FYI – there is a Die Cutting & Embossing Accessories flyer you can download that has the product details for additional Cutting Plates and the 3D Embossing Folder Plate. The 3D Embossing Plate is great if you have one of the “newer” 3D Embossing Folders from Stampin’ Up! (starting with the current Annual Catalogue) which are a little thinner than the ones from previous catalogues. You can just add a bit of a “shim” using cardstock but you know me, I like when it’s not too difficult – so the 3D Folder Plate is just a bit thicker with no shims required to get a great impression.

Just for reference – this is what the other background looked like. Do you agree with the Facebook Page majority?

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on the thank you card photo on Facebook. If you want to get in on the next poll (whenever that might be LOL) be sure to “like” and “follow” the YamStamps Facebook Page!

A Blue Card for Blue Monday

When is Blue Monday not so blue? When you get THIS blue card for Blue Monday! The third Monday of January is apparently known as Blue Monday – the most sad day of the year. Around here – not so sad, because it’s also Stampers Club Day, and getting together with other crafty peeps will always make it a good day.

Here’s a card that I created featuring my favourite colour (blue) and one of my favourite suites from the Stampin’ Up! Jan-June Mini Catalogue – Parisian Blossoms.

blue card for blue monday
Parisian Blossoms Suite Card

I used one of my favourite crafting hacks for this one – pulling colours from the Designer Series Paper (“DSP”) – Parisian Blossoms Specialty DSP – to guide my colour choices. In this case – Petal Pink and Pool Party, with a bit of Champagne Foil. The card features the Forever Blossoms Bundle from the Suite – the Cherry Blossoms Dies (to die cut the champagne foil swirls) and the Forever Blossoms Stamp Set (the sentiment). I used the Stitched Rectangle Dies to cut out the sentiment and the Champagne Foil Sheet background. An extra touch of glamour from the Petal Pink Metallic-Edge Ribbon to finish it off.

This card was super easy and came together quickly – probably because I like the products so much LOL. If you are overwhelmed with trying to choose from the beautiful patterned papers available in the Mini Catalogue, don’t forget that I am offering a Designer Series Paper Share (until the end of the month). For $40CAD you can get a 6″ x 12″ piece of each double sided design available from the Mini and Sale-a-Bration Catalogues. If you are unable to pick up your paper in Burlington, ON, I can ship it to you for actual cost. I’m still working on trying to reduce the shipping costs even more, but it varies from approximately $10-20 depending on where you live in Canada. It’s a lot of paper! When you contact me to reserve your share, I can do a shipping quote for you if needed.

Hopefully this blue card for Blue Monday makes your day a little brighter! Thanks for stopping by.

Birthday Card for a Musician

Are you in need of a birthday card for a musician? Or someone who loves music? The new Stampin’ Up! set Music from the Heart is perfect for creating music themed cards.

birthday card for a musician

When I saw this set in the new January-June Mini Catalogue, I knew I would be buying it! Music is a big part of my life, so I knew I could come up with a few ways to use it. I also loved that the music notation is accurate…LOL.

For this card, I used my Stamparatus to be sure that the music staff lines were straight. I stamped the treble clef and the notes by hand – in part because I had to use the one note more than once. If you can read music, you will (hopefully!) recognize that I stamped out the first line of the Happy Birthday song. I figured that the hearts on the treble clef and last note would provide a bit of symmetry. I added in the piano image at the bottom just for a little extra design element. You could easily bling this cardfront up with rhinestones to make it even more flashy!

This stamp set will also be perfect for music-themed scrapbook pages. Given that I’ve committed to getting a bit more serious about memory keeping (read “I will actually make scrapbook pages rather than just think about making them…”) I am sure that this set will get a workout for at least a couple of pages for me.

Are you more of a scrapbooker or a cardmaker? While I’m not abandoning my cardmaking efforts, I will be making more of an effort in the scrapbooking area. I will post some of my pages on the various YamStamps outlets – here on the YamStamps site and on the Facebook Page. I am thinking of doing some more creative challenges in the Paper Crafting with YamStamps Facebook Group – is that something of interest to you? Please join us in the group and we’ll be getting that starting in the next little while.

In the meantime, I’ve now got a design for a birthday card for a musician…but there’s also need for a thank you card, just because card, encouragement card… It’s not just that I’m avoiding the snow removal outside, really! Stay warm everyone!
