Curvy Floral Card

Sale-a-Bration is ending on February 28th this year – which is earlier than previous Sale-a-Brations. There will be another Sale-a-Bration occuring in the summer, but this is your last chance to grab the January-February Sale-a-Bration items before they’re gone!

This curvy floral card was inspired by a swap I received from fellow demonstrator Kay Smith. While I do enjoy the design process, one of the things that Stampin’ Up! demonstrators do is share ideas – so then we can add our own twists (or not!). It’s great to see the beautiful work by others and get inspiration.

The floral paper is the Flower & Field Designer Series Paper that is a Level 1 Sale-a-Bration option. This means that if you place an order for $60 product, you could select it as your freebie. If you place an order for $120, you could get two packages…or one of the Level 2 Sale-a-Bration options (and so on, and so on…). The paper is cut with the curved edge die from the Curvy Dies. It’s layered on some Pool Party Cardstock that is embossed with the Ornate Floral 3D Embossing Folder. A few layered Daisy Punch outs add some more floral accents. Can you tell what the centres of the daisies are? I actually used the centre of the “O” from the Playful Alphabet dies! Added a sentiment from the Dragonfly Garden stamp set onto a Stitched Shape oval. I love oval die cuts for sentiments. The Layering Ovals Dies are a great option as well. They tend to fit a number of sentiments and I always find that curved lines are more forgiving in terms of lining things up. Plus I figured the curved angle went well on this curvy floral card.

No Stamping Required Card

My Stampers Club and Card Classes are being held virtually right now, and one of the Stampin’ Up! rules about class kits that I send out is that I can’t pre-stamp anything. It makes sense, especially when you want to learn about card making and stamping, but it has been stretching my creative brain cells a bit at times! This no stamping required card thankfully came together fairly quickly so that was nice!

One thing that made this card easy was that I used items from the same suite. They’re all from the Fine Art Floral Suite Collection in the January-June 2021 Mini Catalogue. This is one of my favourite suites! (OK disclaimer, I’m not into the Gilded Leafing because I’m a messy crafter to start, and that stuff would be absolutely everywhere for a very long time). Anyway. I used my current favourite embossing folder, Painted Texture for the backing piece and then added some of the 3/8″ Fine Art Ribbon. It’s a subtle metallic – if there’s such a thing.

To finish the card, I simply die cut some Stitched Rectangles from Poppy Parade Cardstock and the Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper. I actually used my new Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine for this step – it’s such a cute little machine! It would be perfect to take to a crop (whenever we get to do things like that again). I also love that it doesn’t take up much room on my crafting surface – so I have more room to spread out my crafting supplies and mess LOL.

I really like putting main elements towards the bottom right of my cardfronts….I think it adds a bit more interest than always centering the focal image, which I otherwise tend to do.

Last but not least – if you’re missing card classes, join me in March for my Online Card Class. This is one of the no stamping required cards we’ll make together. I’ll send you the packet of precut class materials ahead of time, then we’ll get together on a Zoom conference call March 10th. If you can’t make it on that date, no worries! You’ll have access to the recording afterward so that you can watch at your leisure.

Class fee is $20 and includes postage of class materials to your home in Canada. You can contact me to register and to get payment links. Deadline for registration is February 28 to allow for postage time. You will need an adhesive of your choice and something that you can score and cut cardstock with, plus Stampin’ Dimensionals are a nice option. You can add stamping from your stash on hand after the class! When I had in person events, a lot of people would actually opt to leave the sentiments out at the time anyway and add them later, once they knew the occasion for which they would be using the card.

I hope you’re enjoying your Family Day (or whatever it’s called in your neck of the woods…). I’m looking to spending time with some of my crafty family tonight – aka the Stampers Club! It’s our online class, and it’s always fun to see each other and catch up a bit, while also getting to share some crafting. I’m off to make sure everything’s charged up and that I have a reasonably cleared worktop!

All White Card

I created this card before hearing the news that Whisper White cardstock/products are discontinued due to the closing of the factory producing it….but I am sharing this all white card in celebration of the product. (Plus at time of writing, Whisper White cardstock is still showing in the YamStamps Online Stampin’ Up! Canada store…)

All White Card
All White Card

I love the elegance of monochromatic themes – and an all white card is definitely elegant. When making a one colour card, though, I do find it important to use texture or something to help it stand out a bit more. The Evergreen Forest 3D Embossing Folder gives a lot of detail to the cardstock, so I thought it was great to use as a backdrop. To keep things super simple, I added the Silver 3/8″ Metallic Edge Ribbon and the sentiment from Butterfly Wishes in Smoky Slate Ink on a Layering Ovals Die Cut. I think maybe next time I might add either a heat embossed silver edge or a Silver Foil Oval behind the sentiment to give it more definition.

You could use this card design with any single colour you like – though if you’re using a darker cardstock you may want to heat emboss your sentiment so it stands out, and add a lighter coloured cardstock insert inside the card so your message will be readable.

This is one of December’s Stampers Club cards – though really I should maybe start calling it “Card Club” because in the day and age right now of virtual gatherings, we tend to focus more on card making techniques and die cuts, which I can send out to everyone in their class packets (Stampin’ Up! regulations prohibit us from sending out pre-stamped images). It’s fun to see each other on our Zoom get togethers as we make the cards together (or watch everyone else make them and make them in our own time later on LOL). I record our Zooms and then upload them to our club website so that members can access them after the fact. If you’re interested in joining us, you can start at any time for a six month period. Since our meetings are online, you can join from anywhere in Canada. You can contact me for more information on how to join us.

In the meantime, maybe I’ll create another all white card with Whisper White Cardstock until Stampin’ Up!’s replacement is available – it will be called Basic White. Looking forward to seeing what it’s like!

Snowflake Card for a Friend

While I know that I’ve been doing the Twelve Weeks of Christmas Projects for YamStamps subscribers, I’m still caught off guard with the fact that Christmas is a month and a half away! Today’s snowflake card for a friend was one that I created for a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator only swap featuring products from the August-December 2020 Mini Catalogue. Snowflakes are one of my favourite “themes” for seasonal and holiday cards.

snowflake card for a friend
Snowflake Card for a Friend

I used the Snowflake Wishes Discounted Bundle that includes the Snowflake Wishes stamp set and coordinating So Many Snowflakes Dies. I knew I wanted to use the “window” die and then played around with layouts until I was happy. I die cut the Night of Navy cardstock layer, and then also die cut a piece of Vellum Cardstock. I embossed the Vellum Cardstock with the Winter Snow Embossing Folder and then turned the layers so that window matched up but the die cut snowflakes did not to add some more interest. I added some bling with the Blue Adhesive Backed Gems because everything is better with something shiny!

I adhered the Vellum to the cardfront with Glue Dots and tried to place them behind snowflakes so they weren’t quite as visible. I hid a couple of them with the gems, and now that I look at this photo, could have added a few more gems?!

I love the fact that this snowflake card for a friend could be a holiday card but could also be a birthday card, friendship card or just because card during this season. Burlington is entering “Red Zone Status” for the pandemic as of Monday, so I think it’s an important time to keep in touch with people while keeping socially distanced.

If you’re looking for ways to keep busy, consider purchasing one of my Card Classes to Go – the “regular” versions feature a variety of projects, and the Holiday Card Class to Go focuses on holiday cards only. Each class has the precut materials for four different cards, plus a printout with a photo of the completed project and step by step instructions. You can add sentiments from your own stash or shop the YamStamps Online Stampin’ Up! Canada store (shortcut: YamStamps.com/shop) for the ones I use in the samples. Contact me for payment links and more information. Each class cost is $20 and includes postage within Canada.

Monochromatic Card

Happy November! What did you do with your extra hour? (Assuming you live somewhere where the clocks did change…). Me? My internal clock had me wake up at the same weird hours through the night (it particularly likes 4am for some reason) and then I eventually fell asleep again so that I could wake up and be totally disoriented LOL. It’s all good. So today, I have to keep checking the date, and then double checking the time because I’m not sure if the clock I’m looking at is one of the ones I’ve changed already or not…

Thought I’d share this monochromatic wintery card with you today. One colour design schemes are a favourite of mine (I created a whole online class based on monochromatic schemes a few years ago!). This could be a holiday card, or a “just because card”. Often when doing cards for Club or Class, I don’t assign specific sentiments – doing designs that could be used for a multitude of occasions is often more useful and then the card maker can just stamp an appropriate sentiment for the card giving occasion.

monochromatic card
Monochromatic pine bough card

For this monochromatic card, I used a Very Vanilla base and textured layer (it’s my current go to Embossing Folder – Tasteful Textile). The pine bough and cones are die cut with the Beautiful Boughs dies and are from Whisper White Cardstock. You’ll want either the Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Adhesive Sheets for the detailed pinecone die cut to make it easy to adhere the layers together. If you’re using the sheets, adhering it to the cardstock before you die cut will make it even faster! I also like to have my Take Your Pick tool on hand – with the Brush Tip on one end, and the spatula tip on the other end.

I will be including this design in my Holiday Card Class to Go, which will be available in the next week or so…precut designs ready for you to assemble and add your personal touch. Stay tuned for the official launch! Better yet be on my mailing list so that you’ll get the notification!

In the meantime, I will continue to figure out what time it is, and ponder whether Daylight Savings Time has started or ended. Seriously. I can never figure that one out. Maybe now you understand why I like clean and simple card designs and monochromatic card themes?! The less complicated for my brain, the better!!

Inked Embossing Folder Technique

I’ve revisited the inked embossing folder technique for my demonstrator team and customer cards this month. If you’ve been reading the YamStamps blog for a while, you’ll know I like easy techniques that make big impressions – and this definitely fits the bill. I did a video as well!

Here’s the card I will be sending out to those who have made purchases with me in the last few months. I was reminded what a good technique this is – in part due to the popularity of this pin on the YamStamps Pinterest Account.

This card uses the Parisian Flourish 3D Embossing Folder. I find that the 3D Embossing Folders are really good for this technique because of the depth of the impressions – it makes it a bit easier to keep the ink in the right place…(a bit…you can see there’s some ink on the raised surfaces, but doesn’t ruin the overall effect, in my opinion!)

Here’s the video – if you can’t see it, go to the YamStamps YouTube Channel (and subscribe!) – here’s the link to the video directly.

Inked Embossing Folder Technique Tutorial

The Inked Embossing Folder Technique is timeless! I look forward to sharing other tips and techniques with you – I’m working on some classes and offerings that I’ll be rolling out in the next few months. if you’re on the YamStamps list you’ll be sure to be notified. In the meantime, there’s always the Stampers Club (Virtual meetings!) or the Card Class to Go if you’re needing a crafting inspiration injection! (note: limited to Canadian residents only due to Stampin’ Up! regulations). Check out the YamStamps Events Page for more information – or contact me. In the meantime – happy crafting!
