Jul 26, 2017 | cards, Christmas, specials, Stampin' Up!

Believe it or not, I’ve already held two Handmade Christmas Card classes already this summer – this is a card we made at the last class. Clean and simple design, blinged up with the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush (which apparently is hard for me to photograph…). Navy and white is a classic colour combination, and goes well with a clean layout, I think. Stampin’ Up!’s Carols of Christmas is the featured stamp set, and if you purchase a starter kit in July you will receive this set for FREE in the bonus Essentials Kit that includes some great tools for papercrafting (all in all a $94 value). This is on top of the value already packed into your choice of $165 worth of product for $135 and necessary business supplies to get you started! More information here. Start selecting your product here.
Your other option is to wait until August, and this set will be available for purchase in either wood mount or clear mount, or in a bundle with the coordinating Card Front Builder Dies. I’ll be posting a link to those items in my online store in August. If you purchased $60 in product in July, you’ll also have that coupon code to use in August – so it’s a great time to get your supplies for YOUR handmade Christmas card!
A hint on this card – when I made this prototype, I ended up lining up the first set of ornaments a little too far to the left, so when I stamped the second set, I ended up with a gap at the right side of the words (under the S…) – so everyone in the class was advised to start their ornaments a bit further towards the centre. I saved this handmade Christmas card by cleaning the stamp, then colouring in just one of the ornaments with the brush end of a Night of Navy Stampin’ Write marker. This way, I was able to stamp a single ornament at the right side so I didn’t have a funny gap.
Some class attendees already have EIGHT handmade Christmas cards in their stash….no pressure or anything….haha! If you’re not quite ready for Christmas cards, consider attending the Monthly Card Class instead. We do 4 different cards, for various occasions, and all required supplies are included in your $20 class fee. First Wednesday of each month – check the YamStamps Events page for upcoming dates. If you DO want to make a handmade Christmas card….or 4….the next Christmas card class is August 17th, a Thursday evening at 7pm. You have the option of the Basic Class Fee – $20 for all supplies to create that evening’s cards, or the Basic+ Class Fee, which includes all the supplies PLUS the featured product for that class. The July class featured the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush on all the projects. The August class will feature the new Silver and Gold Edged Ribbon – participants who choose the Basic+ option will receive half a roll of each product that evening, in addition to the class supplies required. You can contact me to register.
In other news….not sure if you saw it on my Instagram feed or the YamStamps Facebook page, but I road tripped to St Thomas this past weekend! I did a class for Jenny and her friends, which was a lot of fun, and Jenny decided to take advantage of the July special and purchase the starter kit as well – so she’s now part of my demonstrator group known as the “Eh” Team! So fun! More fun on the way home – I drove across town to check out the Jumbo statue, as advised by everyone at the class! St Thomas is the city of trains – in fact, the last time I was in the area was for the Day Out with Thomas (as in Thomas the Tank Engine) a number of years ago with my son (who is now 17….so you can imagine it’s been a while). Anyway. The life sized Jumbo statue is in place to memorialize the real life Jumbo the elephant from the P.T. Barnum circus, who was sadly struck & killled by a train while in St Thomas. He really was a huge elephant! It was a little detour before I headed safely home again. I realize I need to work on my selfie skills a little more….but here’s the proof, as I squinted into the sun to get the shot…

I was also hurrying to get the photo before the other visitors were in my shot! I don’t often travel this far to do a class, but I do enjoy getting out to meet new people at events like this if time and schedule permit. That is definitely one of the best perks of this “job”. I’m looking forward to more travel – to Stampin’ Up!’s On Stage event in Salt Lake City for one, where I’ll be joined by quite a few of my “Eh” Team members this fall! If I play my (greeting?!) cards right, I will be able to earn a gift card for travel as well! In the meantime, I’m off to come up with some creations for August’s class. Hope to see you there!

May 19, 2017 | cards, specials, Stampin' Up!

During the month of May, you can order Eastern Palace Suite products in a bundle before they are released in the new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue! I used the products to create this easy die cut card. I love how detailed and intricate it is….and how easy it was to create! The circular die cut shape is one die, and the flower and petal cut outs are two nesting dies that you can run through the Big Shot at one time. The little petal flourishes around the border of the die cut are created using stamps – but because they coordinate with the backing cardstock, a lot of people think it’s a part of the die cut detail! Thank you, Stampin’ Up! coordinating inks and cardstock!
These products are available in two options – the Eastern Palace Starter Bundle and the Eastern Palace Premier Bundle. To recreate this card, you’ll need the Premier Bundle, which contains the Eastern Medallions Framelits Dies. I chose to use Rich Razzleberry and Bermuda Bay cardstocks & inks – which are similar to the new In Colours included in the kits – Fresh Fig and Tranquil Tide – only because of the numbers I had to prep (and didn’t have enough cardstock at the time to cover all I needed for classes!). So – 2 passes of the Big Shot with 3 dies, a bit of stamping and you have an easy die cut card!
I did a fancier variation of this design for a swap I participated in, so will share that version a little later as well. Just FYI – if you’re interested in the bundles, you can order them as part of your Starter Kit…plus still have room for a little more product! The Eastern Palace Flyer is here. If you want to create your own easy die cut card, just be aware that the bundles are available during May, but are NOT featured in the new catalogue – there is a bundle of the stamps and dies, and then all the individual products….so to make the easy die cut card….easier….consider grabbing a bundle! You can check out the Eastern Palace products in the YamStamps Online Stampin’ Up! Canada store here. As always – please contact me if you have any questions.
May 11, 2017 | Announcements, Paper Pumpkin, specials

Much like “YamStamps” has nothing to do with yams….Paper Pumpkin isn’t really about pumpkins either! Stampin’ Up!’s Monthly Paper Crafting Subscription Kit, Paper Pumpkin, comes to your door each month with all the supplies needed for that month’s craft. In the picture above is the April kit, which came with an extra gift of mini watercolour pencils! I personally love my Paper Pumpkin kit for quick and easy crafting on the go. I have taken a kit with me when I’ve gone away – easy to just tuck the box into my bag and I’ve got everything I need in case I have some down time to craft, or need a little creative “me” time. I know of people who have ordered them to make with their grandchildren, or have their own subscription and send another to their long distance family members, so they can still “craft together”.
If you sign up for a new month by month subscription before June 10th, you’ll get your own paper crafting subscription kit for 25% off the first three months! So June, July and August at a discount! Celebrate the summer season with a bit of crafting! This is a GREAT time to get a subscription started for the kids – with school ending, they’ll have something “crafty” to look forward to in the mailbox each month this summer, and you’ll be able to have a bit of quiet time either crafting WITH them or…..having a bit of quiet time while THEY craft?!
The fine print – only new subscribers are eligible for this special, and only month by month subscriptions are eligible. You can find out more information about Paper Pumpkin, the monthly paper crafting subscription kit HERE. If you’re ready to jump in and get started, you can click on the image above or HERE to go to the sign up page! One last thing I love about these kits – if I’m not feeling really creatively inspired, I can just copy the examples in the kit, or if I’m feeling a little more creative, I’ll come up with my own variations. Cards, packaging ideas, and giftables have been in previous kits. Once you’re a subscriber as well, you have the option to purchase previous month’s kits as availability allows! If you have any questions that aren’t answered on my info page about Paper Pumpkin, you can contact me.
Apr 10, 2017 | Events, Retired List, specials, Stampin' Up!
What a busy weekend it was! Retiring after the weekend seemed like a good idea – but not in the permanent sense – only in the “I shall retire to my bed” thinking! haha. I am not retiring, but some Stampin’ Up! product will be (at the end of May)….read on to find out more.
Stampin’ Up! held Centre Stage and On Stage Events globally – the main event was in Amsterdam, but we had a local event in Toronto as well (there were others – across North America and the South Pacific). I was honoured to be asked to do a presentation on a new stamp set in the upcoming catalogue during the Saturday event….and that meant Friday rehearsal as well. So I trekked into Toronto on Friday afternoon to do a run through with sound and the cameraman while other helpers were busy completing set up for the big event the next day. Here’s a selfie that I shared on Instagram – with my head mic – just like Madonna/Britney/Beyonce…..

Friday Evening was the Centre Stage event for demonstrators at the Silver Elite level and above – basically, demonstrators with a certain number of people in their demonstrator group. We get a lovely meal, some training focusing on business or team building, and, yay, goodies. This year we got a fun apron and a stamp set…..plus a copy of the new catalogue.
Saturday was the main show – On Stage! A busy day full of fun – seeing friends from all around, meeting new friends, getting my presentation done and over with (phew!), making some fun projects….

(me on stage at On Stage) Thanks for this photo, Arlene….and hey, I did actually look up at everyone! (I thought I spent most of the time staring down at what I was doing….which I probably was, just that Arlene caught the one moment I looked up?!).

Members of the “Eh” Team who were able to attend On Stage. Love this photo because we’re obviously having fun!
So many highlights of the weekend, and of course one of (if not THE) biggies = new catalogue sneak peek! It’s a mixed blessing though, because with the upcoming new catalogue (June), there’s LOTS of fun new items….but in order to make room, a bunch of product has to retire. Again, a mixed blessing – some of the retiring product is available at up to 50% off BUT it is while supplies last. What to do?
