Sep 7, 2016 | Big Shot, cards, Stampin' Up!

Sympathy cards are often needed, but tend to be a card that can be difficult to create when you need one – because you likely don’t feel like crafting at that time! It’s great to be able to copy something or have some cards on hand at that time – less thinking involved. This card is based on one that I received a while back as part of a demonstrator swap, and I apologize because I don’t have the original creator’s name anymore. I took the design and adjusted it to what I had on hand.
Swapping is a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator sport I think!! It happens at Stampin’ Up! events or often when demonstrators get together. There are organized swaps where you sign up and do an assigned number of cards, or non-organized – you just show up to the event with a number of cards or cardfronts and trade with others for whatever they’ve brought. It’s a good way to get creative ideas, like in this case. I’m getting a little low on swap samples, so I’m looking forward to the next Stampin’ Up! event, which is happening early November in Ottawa ON (amongst other locations). A number of demonstrators in my group will be attending, and since we tend to be scattered all over the province (and country), it will be a good chance to meet up in person! (If you want to join us, contact me for more information).
Anyway, I digress – back to the card! The textured background is the Seaside Embossing Folder, one of the new ones in the Annual Catalogue. It’s a wider folder so the lines can be either vertical or horizontal. The flower from Flower Shop (wood or clear mount) is embossed in white on vellum, punched out with the coordinating Pansy Punch, and Blushing Bride is daubed on the back of the vellum to add a subtle colour. The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes (available in wood or clear mount), one of my most used sets. The flower is adhered onto the cardfront with a glue dot hidden behind the centre of the flower, which also holds the gold metallic thread loops in place.
If you need to build up your card stash, consider either attending one of my classes in Burlington, or get a group of friends together and host one at your place – I will come to you! (well, within driving distance of Burlington ON….unless I happen to be travelling and visiting in your neck of the woods – you never know! LOL). I’ve updated the YamStamps Events page and events until the end of the year are posted. Keep checking, though, because you never know if more classes will be added!

Aug 24, 2016 | cards, Stampin' Up!

I love the fun retro feel of Stampin’ Up!’s Marquee Messages set. Paired here with one of the 2016-2018 In Colours, Dapper Denim, it makes for a great card – I like this especially for a teenager because it’s not too cutesy and not too serious. There’s a bit of colouring (love the brush tip end of the Stampin’ Write markers for that) and a bit of *gasp* fussy cutting – but it’s straight lines so it’s not too complicated, really! A bit of bling with the Gold Glitz Dazzling Details and it’s done. Just be sure to allow for drying time for the Dazzling Details, especially if you get a bit heavy handed at times…like me…LOL.
OK I’m totally getting back on track with my blogging….this month so far I’ve taken some time to be with friends and family, and I spent the past two weeks with the TV on a LOT, watching the Olympics, so now it’s back to the “real world”, and getting my son ready to go back to the “real world” as well (aka BACK TO SCHOOL!). I’m going to have a give away in the next while as well, so I’m getting myself all organized for that as well! In the meantime, later today is the August Christmas Card Class! I should dig out my Christmas music and play it while we create our cards with the “This Christmas” Designer Series Paper, don’t you think?! Ho ho ho four months until Christmas Eve!!
Aug 10, 2016 | cards, specials, Stampin' Up!

This card uses the Thoughtful Branches bundle – which has the Thoughtful Branches photopolymer stamp set and the Beautiful Branches thinlits dies. YamStamps Newsletter Subscribers will have seen some different samples with this bundle in the August newsletter. (If you’re not already subscribed, if you subscribe now, you’ll get a copy of the latest newsletter plus a free video tutorial!). I love the coordination of the stamp set and dies, because I often don’t have the time or patience to fussy cut detailed images. For this card, I did cut the hills by hand (*gasp*). The sentiment is on a framelit from the Tags & Labels framelits die set. I usually find it easiest (and safest?) to put the sentiment on a tag or label and add it to the card front to be sure that it is exactly where I want it (and straight as well!). You also have the flexibility to leave the tag off until you know what sentiment you need for that particular card – making your card stash (and dollar) stretch even further.
Don’t forget that if you purchase the bundle through me, you’ll get a free set of instructions to create 5 different projects! If you want to make it even easier on yourself, purchase a complete kit for $95 and you’ll get precut supplies to create those projects – you supply the ink and adhesive and you’re ready to go. Contact me for more information! Grab the bundle before it goes away – and you know you’ll want something to do once the Olympics are over!!!
