How to Make a Longer Snowflake Card

snowflake-card-closed The Twelve Weeks of Christmas mailings are finished now – but why is it that I’m still surprised by how quickly time has passed? (Note – this would be the heads up that I have not really finished my own cards…LOL). Stampin’ Up!’s Snowflake Card Thinlits die does make for a fairly quick and impressive card, though! Of course, everything also looks more impressive when you add some bling – in this case, a snowflake from the Silver Glimmer Paper. The All Is Calm Designer Series Paper covers the back flap of the card, and the small snowflake from the Letterpress Winter Photopolymer set is on the front of the card, with the large snowflake taking centre stage.

The next shot shows the open card. You can make your card long like this one by cutting your cardstock to 5-3/8″ x 8.5″ and having the one end of the cardstock on top of the die (at the end farthest from the snowflake), rather than underneath it. This allows the snowflake end to be die cut/embossed, while not chopping off the other end of the cardstock. Then you simply fold the long end inwards and you have an extra area that will let you write on the inside of the card without having it exposed when the card is closed. (The last photo shows how to position the cardstock.

What I have in common with Ali Edwards and Cathy Zielske….

icicle-card
One of the fun opportunities I’ve had of late is the chance to be creative for Stampin’ Up! Saturday on the Scrapbook and Cards Today Blog. This is the blog for the Canadian produced magazine that also features contributions by Ali Edwards and Cathy Zielske, two of my scrapbooking idols, so I’m thrilled to be able to say that we’re published in the same space… well, kind of… (as close as I’m going to get at this point anyway LOL!). I had a lot of fun with the latest set of projects featuring the Watercolour Winter Simply Created Kit (ok, I know it’s actually Watercolor Winter in the catalogue, but I can’t help including the “u” – it looks like a spelling error to me otherwise). I’m so grateful for the opportunity.

I managed to do a new video for you all! I know it’s been a while since I’ve done one – I apologize – between decluttering/selling/packing/moving a household, it’s been one of those things that fell by the wayside a bit. However, time to get back at it, and no time like the present! Today’s video shows you how to create the fun icicle accents that decorate this quick and easy card featuring the set Endless Wishes from the Holiday Catalogue. Enjoy! Frugal Friday Video Tip!

Semi-regularly, I’ll post a Frugal Friday idea. Today’s idea helps you to get more life out of those icky, old glue sticks. You know, the ones you didn’t quite get the cap on correctly, or haven’t used in ages so the glue dries up into a hard, yellowy lump. Not sure what I’m talking about? Check out my video to see!! LOL. Don’t forget if you’d like to stock up on more glue sticks, they’re only available while supplies last…

This Tool Tip was shot on my iphone…so at one point things aren’t quite perfectly framed….but you’ll still get the idea! The video is embedded below, if you can’t see it, click here to go to the video on the YamStamps Youtube channel.

Handmade Christmas Cards – Video

Oops! I just realized that I hadn’t posted the video from my CHCH TV Morning Live appearance here!  I did manage to get it onto the YamStamps Youtube channel….so I’m catching up now!  I am always grateful when I’m invited back to be on the Morning Live show – the hosts and crew are fantastic to work with, and we always have fun on air.  This past time, I shared some handmade Christmas card ideas – including a fun (and fairly simple to recreate) 3D card. If you have any questions, leave me a message in the comments area below, or contact me.

Witch’s Hat Tutorial

You may have seen the little paper witch’s hat on the table during my recent appearance on CHCH TV’s Morning Live show. I thought I’d create a quick video tutorial on how I made this. It’s nothing elaborate, but it’s fun and fairly easy to create. Happy World Cardmaking Day! Basics Tutorial for you

Happy World Cardmaking Day! Today we celebrate the art and craft of cardmaking, which of course leads (hopefully!!) to card sending. It used to be that we were thrilled to get an email and found things delivered by post very common – it’s definitely not that way anymore – it seems we are innundated by emails, and it’s thrilling to receive something in the mail (especially if it’s NOT in a window envelope…LOL).

I thought I’d do a quick video tutorial on basic cuts and layers for cardmaking that you can apply to any project. I must also admit, it’s a pretty “quick and dirty” video, both figuratively and literally! It was shot quickly…and if you watch it, you’ll see the “dirty” part (hint…I shot this video after card class and we used black ink at one point…check out my right hand?! LOL). Part of the reason it’s quick and dirty is also because I’ve been working on the not as quick and much prettier videos for my next online card class, which should be up and ready to go by the end of the weekend – so come back to see more information about that!!

Here’s the video – Happy World Cardmaking Day!  If you can’t see the embedded video below, come directly to the post on yamstamps.com or check the yamstamps youtube channel.
