Shoot For the Moon!

www.yamstamps.com

I love the sentiment “Shoot for the moon – even if you miss, you’ll land amongst the stars”. I think I use it a lot when setting goals for myself. I have the “moon” goal which is usually quite challenging and lofty, the “back up” or “stars 1” goal, which is still a challenge but perhaps slightly more realistic and the “worst case scenario” or “stars 2” goal….LOL. For example, as a Stampin’ Up! Canada demonstrator, one of the things you can earn through sales, promotions etc is a Trip (this past year was Thailand). So that tends to be my “moon” goal. This year, I came close, but not close enough to earning that goal. However, I easily earned my “stars 1” goal – an iPad Air2! The new Stampin’ Up! business year has started again this month, so once again, the “moon” goal is the trip (this year is an Alaskan cruise). I will have to see what my “stars” goal will be!

This is a spinner card made with the Shooting Star set (available in Wood Mount or Clear Mount) and the coordinating Sliding Star Framelits Dies. Have I mentioned lately how much I love coordinating framelits and images? No fussy cutting. Just my cup of tea! We used the Foam Adhesive Strips to lift the front portion of the card and allow the sliding/spinning mechanism to work better. The strips are a little thicker than the Stampin’ Dimensionals. We used pennies with a dimensional behind the star to allow the mechanism to move. You could also use small washers if you’ve already gotten rid of all your Canadian pennies. Though you maybe can’t see it in this picture, the star is glitzy – coloured with the Gold Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. (this is always when I yell “Stellllllaaaaaaaa” in my head. Perhaps I shouldn’t have admitted that??!! LOL).

Thank you to everyone who has recently signed up for the YamStamps Newsletter. The Twelve Weeks of Christmas have started, and Week 2 will be sent out on Wednesday at 1pm. In the meantime – Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving!

Cookie Cutter Christmas Card

ly-2764

This fun card was one of the ones we made in the September Christmas Card Class! Attendees received the Baker’s Twine Trio pack as part of their class, and we used some of the twine on the cards in class, and the rest (there was a LOT lol) went home with them for other projects.

Cookie Cutter Christmas is a photopolymer stamp set that’s available on its own, or as part of a discounted bundle with the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.  There’s also a coordinating Halloween set available – Cookie Cutter Halloween – available in wood mount or clear mount.

There’s still time to register for the October Christmas Class which will feature some non-traditional colours – the product included with the class fee will be the Fancy Frost Sequins and a share of a Glitter Ribbon Combo Pack.  Please register by October 12th for the class on October 26. As always, we use a portion of the product in class, and then the class attendees take the rest home. See all the upcoming events on the YamStamps Events Page and register before the deadline! Please contact me if you have any questions. Hope to see you in class soon!

Happy Autumn!

Happy First Day of Autumn – though around here it was pretty warm…I hear that’s going to change this weekend though?! These fun samples are made with the Stampin’ Up! set Totally Trees and while great for this season, can be adapted for any of the four seasons you wish! I though this was a great image to share today.

Stampin’ Up!’s Special Offers have finished for now – but don’t forget that the Clearance Rack is still up and items are available while supplies last. In the meantime, I’m off to finalize designs and prep for September’s Christmas Card Class. If you would like to join me for the October Class – please be sure to register & pay before October 12th. The October Christmas Class will include a package of Fancy Frost Sequins and a share of a Glitter Ribbon ComboPack.   We’ll make seasonal cards with these non-traditionally coloured glitzy items! As always at classes where product is included, I’ll prep all the projects and product required and have it ready for you at class – use it to make the class projects, and take the remainder home with you! Upcoming events and classes can be found on the YamStamps Event Page. Don’t forget that if you can’t make a class date, get a group of friends together and I will bring the class to you! (well, within reasonable driving distance of Burlington ON!) Hope to see you in class soon!

Elegant Sympathy Card

Waves Sympathy Card

Sympathy cards are often needed, but tend to be a card that can be difficult to create when you need one – because you likely don’t feel like crafting at that time! It’s great to be able to copy something or have some cards on hand at that time – less thinking involved. This card is based on one that I received a while back as part of a demonstrator swap, and I apologize because I don’t have the original creator’s name anymore. I took the design and adjusted it to what I had on hand.

Swapping is a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator sport I think!! It happens at Stampin’ Up! events or often when demonstrators get together. There are organized swaps where you sign up and do an assigned number of cards, or non-organized – you just show up to the event with a number of cards or cardfronts and trade with others for whatever they’ve brought. It’s a good way to get creative ideas, like in this case. I’m getting a little low on swap samples, so I’m looking forward to the next Stampin’ Up! event, which is happening early November in Ottawa ON (amongst other locations). A number of demonstrators in my group will be attending, and since we tend to be scattered all over the province (and country), it will be a good chance to meet up in person! (If you want to join us, contact me for more information).

Anyway, I digress – back to the card! The textured background is the Seaside Embossing Folder, one of the new ones in the Annual Catalogue. It’s a wider folder so the lines can be either vertical or horizontal. The flower from Flower Shop (wood or clear mount) is embossed in white on vellum, punched out with the coordinating Pansy Punch, and Blushing Bride is daubed on the back of the vellum to add a subtle colour. The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes (available in wood or clear mount), one of my most used sets. The flower is adhered onto the cardfront with a glue dot hidden behind the centre of the flower, which also holds the gold metallic thread loops in place.

If you need to build up your card stash, consider either attending one of my classes in Burlington, or get a group of friends together and host one at your place – I will come to you! (well, within driving distance of Burlington ON….unless I happen to be travelling and visiting in your neck of the woods – you never know! LOL). I’ve updated the YamStamps Events page and events until the end of the year are posted. Keep checking, though, because you never know if more classes will be added!
