It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas…

We got snow! Here in Ontario, we’ve been having unseasonably warm weather – while my friends in BC were watching the snow falling on the lower mainland….but we did get some big fat flakes falling today (though apparently it’s supposed to warm up again…who knows…)

Anyway – I don’t think that I shared this earlier….though I have been sharing some recent works of art from some friends on my Instagram account, I realize I’ve been a bit of a slacker here. Apologies! This is a card inspired by one I received from one of my demonstrator team members, Leanne. This dove is gorgeous when embossed, and I love deep colours for the background, so in this case it’s Blackberry Bliss. I also had fun with the Softly Falling Embossing Folder on the Gold Foil Cardstock – it’s such a great look – I ended up using it for a lot of the cards that I managed to get sent out! joy-dove-card

The sentiment is embossed in gold and is from the Your Presents stamp set. An extra touch with the Curvy Corner Trio Punch to make it even more fancy and it’s ready to go.

If you are getting down to the wire with your shopping (like me….) gift certificates are always a great option! YamStamps Gift Certificates are available in any denomination, can be used towards product purchases (in Canada) or class fees (Canada or world wide for online classes), and can be delivered electronically! Please contact me to arrange one for that special crafter in your life.

Using Vellum for Cardmaking

snowflake-vellum

I love how vellum makes projects look even more impressive. This simple card was made using Stampin’ Up!’s Holidays Fancy Foil Designer Vellum. For this card, two strips of the silver snowflake vellum were layered on top of each other and bordered by some White Glitter Ribbon. Ignore that the top ribbon is slightly wonky….I learned from this and everyone in club learned a technique to make sure that their ribbon was straight!! (I’ll put up a video about it later this week – promise!)

If you want to find out more about how to use vellum in your cardmaking, then be sure to register for the November Christmas Card Class – REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS TODAY! Class happens on November 19th at 7pm here in Burlington, and your $30 class fee includes a package of Iced Rhinestones and the Winter Wonderland Designer Vellum Stack. You’ll use some of the product to make your 4 cards that evening, and take the rest home – plenty to make more projects! See the YamStamps Events Page or click below to register by PayPal. Contact me if you have any questions. See you in class!

Non-Hallowe’en use for Hallowe’en Paper

silent-halloween-night

Last year, I found that I used Stampin’ Up!’s Hallowe’en themed Designer Series Paper for a lot of non-Hallowe’en projects – and this year looks to be similar! (and yes, using an apostrophe in that word is something I can’t shake. It just feels like a horrible error if I leave it out). The Happy Haunting paper from the Holiday Catalogue definitely has some specific Hallowe’en images – I’ll share some with you during this week, but thought I’d kick off this week by a non-Hallowe’en card with this paper. This past weekend, I did an in home card making party with Sue and her friends. She won the Silent Auction package that I donated to Tansley United Church a while back, so had a free class for 6 people plus a voucher for merchandise. We made this quick and easy holiday card using the Sleigh Ride Edgelits and the star paper from the Happy Haunting Designer Series Package. I love the effect of the starry sky behind the village! The stars are not so large that they overwhelm the silhouettes either – I tried a version with the Lucky Stars Embossing Folder and found the stars seemed too big for the cut outs for my taste. The other neat thing about this Designer Series Paper is that it has a vanilla base rather than a white base. Add in a sentiment from the coordinating Jingle All the Way set (get the edgelits and stamps at a discount in the bundle)  in Basic Gray ink and you’re done!

If you’re looking to get some Christmas cards done, there’s plenty of opportunity to make your own. November’s Monthly Card Class (Weds 4 Nov) will have one holiday card and one masculine card in the mix (you make 4 different cards during class); November’s Christmas Card Class (Thurs 19 Nov) will feature 4 holiday cards made using the Winter Wonderland Vellum Stack and Iced Rhinestones embellishments – your class fee includes full packages of each and you will use some during class and take the remainders home with you; finally, the Christmas Stamp a Stack (Sat 28 Nov 10 am or 1 pm) to create 10 cards (5 different patterns) to really get a whole bunch of cards done in time for the holiday mailing deadlines. See the YamStamps Events Page for more details and to register. Please note the registration deadlines – especially for the Christmas Card Class. Please contact me if you have any questions or need assistance registering. Don’t forget – if you’re really interested in one of these classes but can’t make that date, get a group of friends together and I will bring the class to you!
