Why I Love Being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator

(warning – picture heavy post with sentimental ramblings) I’m now in my 16th year as a Stampin’ Up! Canada Demonstrator! I bought the Starter Kit back when there was a set kit (no picking and choosing your own product like the youngsters these days…), and I totally anticipated buying products for myself at a discount (reason #1 why I love being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – the products / discount) and maybe selling to a few already crafty friends. Fast forward 16 years and here I am….ahem. These days I’m lucky enough to be able to work my day job on a part time basis, and part time at my Stampin’ Up! business. I am anticipating that when I retire from my day job, I will continue as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator – because it’s fun, and it’s a fun way to boost my income (reason #2 why I love being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – the income), so why not?!

I joined Stampin’ Up! for the product and discount, and have stayed for the friendships (reason #3 why I love being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator). This past week, I attended the On Stage Live event in Salt Lake City. Six members of my demonstrator group (The “Eh” Team!) also travelled to Utah for the event! It’s always fun to have a group there, though I wasn’t able to spend the whole time with them….but here’s proof we were there (even if Kim is hiding): L to R – me, Mary, Gail, Kim, Anne, Leanne, Karen.

Why I Love Being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - old friends

This was a busy event for me, as I was asked to be part of the Stampin’ Up! Global Events Council a little while back – and was honoured and thrilled to participate. Seven demonstrators in North America are part of the current council, and we take part in teleconferences, but we met in person for the first time at last week’s On Stage Event in Salt Lake City. The day before registration started, we were busy behind the scenes helping get ready – packaging gifts, prizes, and setting up the room where the leadership event would happen later in the week. We had SUCH a good time together though, that it hardly seemed like work at times! Here’s a group shot along with Shelli Gardner, co-founder of the company (left) and Sara Douglass, CEO (right). (also – L to R Laura, Sherry, Robyn, me, Bonnie, Susan, Rhonda)

I can’t express how glad I am to have gotten to know these wonderful ladies better during our time together. We were amazed at how we all “clicked” so quickly! (reason #4 I love being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – new friends!) I think a shared sense of humour helped – we laughed A LOT. Besides helping out behind the scenes and during the event (running to give out prizes during General Sessions kept my activity levels high LOL), members of the Council also presented during the event. (that also kept my heart rate high for a while LOL). Here I am on stage presenting the Tutti Frutti suite – coming in the Occasions catalogue. (really, I was happy to do this, even if I looked a little stunned in this shot). (Reason #5 why I love being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – it gives me new challenges)

Why I Love Being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator - sharing products

During one of the general sessions, I walked the stage with other friends, celebrating 15 years as a demonstrator, so here I am with some fellow Canadians….photo courtesy of my friend Lydia…can you pick me out?

not quite on stage

No? (see the mitt?! LOL). Good thing Leanne, one of the “Eh” Team members was able to grab a photo…

On the very right is Karen Duke, the first Canadian Demonstrator to reach 1 million in CSV sales (over 1 million Canadian dollars!). I came home feeling energized, supported and motivated…and then discovered that I actually made the Top 50 Canadian Demonstrators for last year! That was the icing on the cake. So here’s to ranking 32nd in the nation, and reaching higher in the next year. Thank you to all the “Eh” Team members, thank you to all my customers, thank you to YamStamps readers and social media followers. (Bonus reason I love being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – you! – too cheesy? sorry!). I look forward to being around for the next 16 years or more!

Scrapfest / CreativFest Wrap Up

yamstamps scrapfest booth

I survived! Scrapfest / CreativFest 2017 in Mississauga was a lot of fun, but it was tiring for sure. Here I am, and it must have been early enough so I wasn’t yet drooping, but late enough so that I was awake (and smiling)…LOL. I had super helpers – Arlene was there for all three days, Anne made it for two (something about trick or treating with the grandchildren on the Saturday, I mean, really…..LOL), and my mother filled in on the final day too. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, filled out a ballot, chatted, shopped and visited. Thanks to my helpers, and thanks to Lisa of Scrapfest.

Congrats to Jackie H who won the free draw and had her choice of either a Big Shot Die Cutting Machine or a full set of Stampin’ Write Markers, and to Sandre, who won the same choice in the draw that was exclusively for those who purchased a starter kit by Sunday.

yamstamps scrapfest 2017 make and takes

These are the various free make and takes we did over the three days. We did the dragonfly the first day (Dragonfly Dreams and Triple Banner Punch were the featured products), the gingerbread man/reindeer the second day (Cookie Cutter Christmas set and builder punch), and the Daisy the last day (Daisy Delight set and punch / discounted bundle). I wanted to have make and takes that were cute, but quick and easy – Scrapfest attendees tend to be set on cruising all the booths, sometimes in a limited amount of time, or en route to a special class, so it’s good to have something that’s not too much brainwork. (OK maybe that last part was just for me….). I figure that people can take their make and takes and use them as tags for gifts, or stick them onto a cardfront or scrapbook page. Or hang them on the fridge. Whatever works.

Here’s a selfie attempt – that’s Arlene on the left of the picture and Anne on the right. Arlene is the only one who seems to know where to look when taking a selfie….and yes, we did fix the sign so it hung better than that…. I hope to be able to be at the next Scrapfest event – it’s always fun to meet new people and catch up with customers and friends who are getting a little crafty shopping time too! To those who requested to be added to my mailing list – I’ve finished that job earlier today and you should have received something from me already – please let me know if you didn’t get an email and wanted to be on the list! To those who requested catalogues – I’m working on confirming mailing addresses and getting things organized for mail out.

In the meantime – tomorrow brings Week 5 of the Twelve Weeks of Christmas to subscribers’ inboxes, and Wednesday is the weekly email….so I’d better get busy!

Retiring after the Weekend….

What a busy weekend it was! Retiring after the weekend seemed like a good idea – but not in the permanent sense – only in the “I shall retire to my bed” thinking! haha. I am not retiring, but some Stampin’ Up! product will be (at the end of May)….read on to find out more.

Stampin’ Up! held Centre Stage and On Stage Events globally – the main event was in Amsterdam, but we had a local event in Toronto as well (there were others – across North America and the South Pacific). I was honoured to be asked to do a presentation on a new stamp set in the upcoming catalogue during the Saturday event….and that meant Friday rehearsal as well. So I trekked into Toronto on Friday afternoon to do a run through with sound and the cameraman while other helpers were busy completing set up for the big event the next day. Here’s a selfie that I shared on Instagram – with my head mic – just like Madonna/Britney/Beyonce…..

Friday Evening was the Centre Stage event for demonstrators at the Silver Elite level and above – basically, demonstrators with a certain number of people in their demonstrator group. We get a lovely meal, some training focusing on business or team building, and, yay, goodies. This year we got a fun apron and a stamp set…..plus a copy of the new catalogue.

Saturday was the main show – On Stage! A busy day full of fun – seeing friends from all around, meeting new friends, getting my presentation done and over with (phew!), making some fun projects….

(me on stage at On Stage) Thanks for this photo, Arlene….and hey, I did actually look up at everyone! (I thought I spent most of the time staring down at what I was doing….which I probably was, just that Arlene caught the one moment I looked up?!).

Members of the “Eh” Team who were able to attend On Stage. Love this photo because we’re obviously having fun!

So many highlights of the weekend, and of course one of (if not THE) biggies = new catalogue sneak peek! It’s a mixed blessing though, because with the upcoming new catalogue (June), there’s LOTS of fun new items….but in order to make room, a bunch of product has to retire. Again, a mixed blessing – some of the retiring product is available at up to 50% off BUT it is while supplies last. What to do?

  1. Download the Retiring Product List – available in pdf format or sortable spreadsheet

  2. Check out what’s retiring, and make a list

  3. BUY those products that you really want – the sooner the better – before it’s unavailable to order!!

  4. Contact me if you have any questions, or need assistance placing your order.

An Inspiring Weekend!

ly-4947

This past weekend, Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators around the world gathered in various locations to learn, be inspired and have fun! Five of my demonstrator group (we are named the “Eh” Team!) members joined me in Ottawa, ON where we attended the On Stage event on Saturday. On Friday evening, I also attended a smaller leadership event called Centre Stage, where we also learned, were inspired and had fun, in a more intimate dinner meeting setting. I was actually a little worried about making it in time as my flight was cancelled at the last minute – however I did manage to make it in plenty of time.

At our Centre Stage dinner table (Kim photobombing LOL); and our table, with Carrie from the Canadian Stampin’ Up! office – Nancy, Kim, Jacinthe, Carrie, me, Jenn and Sofi.

I brought sparkly lanyards for each of my attending team members, but I realize you can’t see the bling in the above photo! I got a lovely number of ribbons to attach to my name tag as well. It was a good business year for me – thank you to all of my customers and team members! It’s great to be able to celebrate with friends.

Members of the “Eh” Team who were able to make it to Ottawa for the On Stage event! Gail, me, Mary, Karen, Kim and Leanne at the end of the day (which is why we look a little tired?!). We were too busy stamping, swapping and socializing to get a pic before then! We got lots of prizes and goodies, plus the upcoming Occasions and Sale-a-Bration catalogues! This is what I can show you so far of all that….

img_4935

Sorry! We are under a gag order right now! (That’s Scott Nielsen, Stampin’ Up!’s CFO who hosted our Ottawa event).  However, you can look forward to seeing lots of the new product very soon. The next seasonal catalogues and Sale-a-Bration will be in effect in January 2017. I’m working on my mailing list right now – if you’ve placed an order with me in the last year, I will automatically you the Occasions & Sale-a-Brations catalogues when they are available. If you are interested in getting them, and not sure if you automatically qualify for a free one from me, please fill out this form so I can get in touch with you and get you copies! If you absolutely can’t wait and need to see things NOW plus want to get in on the merchandise preorder, join my demonstrator group! In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or leave a comment below.
